Abu Garcia Veritas Vs. St. Croix Mojo Bass Vs. St. Croix Premier

Looking to get my first baitcasting set up. Any thoughts on these rods? I know that the mojo and premier are the same besides the handle, so are there advantages to split grip? I would be getting a medium heavy fast action to serve for spinnerbaits and topwater frogs

The premier and mojo are he same blank I believe but with a different warranty. I would go with the premier simply because I prefer the full cork handle.

I have a mojo bass in that action and it is an excellent rod for spinnerbaits and light cover froggin you won't be disappointed

You cant go wrong with either of the Croix's over the Abu.

Veritas is the best $100 rod impo. Lightweight ,sensitive , quality components , comfortable grip and reel seat , and the white color is aesthetically more pleasing than other alternatives. Again just my personal opinion.

Mojo and Premier built on the same blank. I prefer a split grip, and have the mojo. Also, you're saving $20 or so and getting a technique specific rod. The veritas is very light and sensitive, but guides are crap. I had one break off, eventually got replaced under warranty (completely different story...) and. y replacement had one of the guides out of alignment with the others and its support was all bent up. For me, out of your options mojo bass is the obvious choice. But, I'd take a look at the Shimano Compre too. Very high quality blank, same price. I love mine. I'm also super interested in the *** Black by ***. May be my next casting rod. My only other advice is just to go in-store and see which rod feels the best to you. Oh yeah, the nee Duckett Ghists are interesting as well. The regular Micro Magics are nice, I wonder how these will be.

I have the mojo bass and its a great rod. I personally really like split grips but its all user preferance. If you decide to look at them in store I'd say check out the *** *** rods while your there. They're in the same price range and are also great rods for the money, I liked the action so much I put my shimano core on one for fishing small cranks.

For what it's worth, I own a 6'6 MH Mojo and I've fished with Veritas before. I prefer the Veritas over it and wish I would've gone with the Veritas instead. Better feel and sensitivity.

I also have a *** *** that I love and would be another good rod to look at in that price range.

Whichever you get I'd recommend you holding all of them with the reel you'll be using and see how comfortable it is or not. I forgot which mojo model I held at dicks a couple of days ago and it felt noticeably tip heavy without the reel. (Compared to the st croix triumph) Then held a g loomis GL2 and it was also tip heavy. I didn't like that.

I have both the premier and the veritas, and normally I would say get the veritas, but for frogs I like the premier better.

I have had all three. Each has there +'s, and each has there -'s . The Veritas is the lighter, better balanced, and IMHO (because it's subjective) more sensitive. The Croix's are built better, have better componants, and have the better warranty.....5 years vs. 3 on the Abu. Both companies are very easy to deal with on warranty issues.

Here is an oddity to add to the Mojo vs Premier discussion:

I recently bought a "Cabela's exclusive" St. Croix Premier spinning rod with a split grip. They also list the same in a casting rod.

Btw... The Premier is a fantastic rod paired with my Stradic 1000fi. The decreased weight of the split grip really puts the whole thing in balance for me with the smaller reel.

Lastly, I also have the *** Black 7'1" MH for my casting setup. I like it. I wish the grip was a bit different. I throw completely different tackle with it, so I can't offer much comparison between the two.

I'd suggest that you take the reel you intend to use with you to your local tackle store and see how each rod feels with each in hand. Base your decision on how they feel. Split grips have a little advantage of a slight reduction in weight and help aid two handed casting, otherwise it's pretty much just an aesthetic. Personally, I'd go with one of the St. Croix just because I know their attention to quality and detail is second to none. They also have a great warranty and flat out make awesome sticks!

I will say another thing I have 3 Mojos and a veritas and basically just say it it love my St Croixs the mojo bass series are great along with the avid rage and LTB the veritas is also a good rod either way you will get a good stick wether you choose St Croix or Abu Garcia

They're both 5 year warranty now. Premier at one time was life, but no longer.  Cabelas has a Premier line with Split grips as well. It is a Cabelas only deal.

 

I have Mojos, Premieres, Rage, Avids.  All of them are great rods and have served me well.  No experience with Veritas.
