IN your opinion what is the best line for crankbaits

I use Berkley big game mono for anything with treble hooks.  The stretch acts as a shock absorber and keeps the hooks from tearing out.

When it comes to crank plugs and treble hooks, the consensus is a fiberglass blank &/or monofilament line

but don't you think a lot of this is herd-instinct? We've all read conflicting views on how best to set the hook

on crankbaits tied to monofilament line, but with braided line the fish often hooks itself.

 

Tear-offs are a real concern with braided line, but they're very easy to prevent.

If she's a good fish, and you've finally got her out of heavy cover, simply back-off on the reel drag

as you winch her close to the boat. This makes tear-offs on a short line, virtually impossible.

If you do experience a tears-off, you didn't backoff enough (don't forget to re-set the drag tension after every hog)

For square bill or contact / cover cranks - either co-poly and a Graphite stick or braid and a Glass twig.

I use mono on the vast majority of my reels.  Normally 12# on MH rods and 8# on Medium rods.  Therefore mono is my favorite line.  I am using 10# fluoro on one rod and like it just fine for crankbaits.  However, since I can't recall ever using a crankbait on any of the few rods that do have braid on them, I couldn't possibly say which line is best for crankbaits.  If you are asking which specific line (Elite, Sunline Natural, PowerPro, etc.) is the best then I seriously doubt anyone could give a definitive answer as I also seriously doubt anyone has ever used every line being sold today.
