Nrx Vs Dobyns Dx

Hey guys I was looking for some input on an NRX. Recently I just got a Dobyns DX744 and have not even fished it due to the weather. Well, as my cabin fever has set it I have read a lot about how great the NRX is and now I am debating getting one. I know the NRX is the standard in sensitivity but is it significantly better than the DX worth justifying the price? The other reason I was thinking about it was because I am worried the DX is under powered and I should have got a 5 power. It's mainly used for 1/2 oz jigs. I was thinking of the 895jwr NRX. The rod will be paired with a new Metanium. Are loomis rods rated similar to Dobyns or should I get a 4 power? Am I crazy for thinking about this rod? I know it's pricey but if it's a better performer it's worth it to me. Also blue or green on the NRX? Thanks again guys.

The dx745 is better suited for 1/2 jigs. I like the 744 for trigs.

The nrx is arguably the most sensitive rod made. Is it light years above the dx? Depends who you ask. I own the nrx 854 and lots of dobyns. It is "more sensitive" than the dx but nothing to write home about. Not once have i been left wanting more when using a dx.Personal preference is dobyns. More comfortable to fish.

Once you get to a certain price point in rods, there is more of a diminishing return and your paying for aesthetics more than performance once you hit the 350ish /enthusiast price range.

The difference in the green and blue blanks is the finish, nothing more.

Well, I can't really speak for the Champion Extreme rod, I only have a Dobyns Savvy; but I can say that my NRX is absolutely the most sensitive rod I have in my arsenal. I wouldn't say it's a great deal more sensitive than the GLXs that I've fished with, but it is great. The only other rods, that I own, that I can compare the NRX to are my St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass and My G. Loomis IMX and they don't really even compare in terms of only bottom contact sensitivity, unless I'm fishing with braid on them. The NRX is just so light, especially when I've got it paired with my Core 50Mg7; I can feel when my lure is on top of rocks, moving through grass, or slithering through a muddy bottom. The only way that your really going to find out is if you fish your Champion and an NRX side by side. By the way, my NRX is the black and blue, I like the look, but then again those are some of my favorite colors. The rod color is always going to be your choice, the color of the rod doesn't bother the fish.

That's kind of what I was wondering. The difference vs cost. I'm sure the NRX is more sensitive but how much more is another story. How would you compare the weights of the two rods? The DX feels a little heavy to me.

The dx is heavier than the nrx and on paper ny a fair amount. With that said, the dx745 balances amazingly with a 50 siZe reel. It feels light with a reel on it. Not tip heavy at all and i can pitch all day with no fatigue. As for the price difference, thats subjective but i dont feel its worth 200$ more on any accounts

Yeah I got ya. The answer to my question is yes I am crazy. I'm going to stick with the Dobyns for now. Maybe get a loomis later. Thanks for the input guys.

I have both as well. The NRX is more sensitive and more responsive. However the greatest attribute of the nrx in my opinion is the casting distance. The rod casts further than any other rod I own.

If you go NRX buy a Rep sample with a full warranty and wild card. You should be able to get into any NRX rod for about $400 or less. For 1/2 oz jigs the rods to look at would be the 894 and 895 JWR rods and the 873 CRR rod which fishes more like a 5 powered rod.

Just like anything else performance is subjective. Until you fish both side by side it will hard to use opinions to justify another new rod. If it was me I would fish the DX744 and see if you are left wanting more. I have zero issues feeling jig bites on either series.

NRX rods are mentioned in the same breath as the Custom Phenix K2 rods, higher end megabass rods, and maybe a few other JDM and custom builts. Of course Dobyns was supposed to release the new Zayta series which will be their highest end rod to date designed to compete with the NRX. While the release date is still unknown it may be worth holding out for one.

I own both, The DX just feels heavier in comparison .In terms of sensitivity in my hands the DX falls somewhere between IMX and GLX. Both are very good rods but I think the NRX is better. Is it worth the extra cost ? to me yes..

I've never used a Dobyns so I can't compare the 2. I've only have one NRX and I'm not that impressed with it. I have a rod built on a MHX hi mod with basically the same specs that I like better.

Have you thought about having DVT build you a rod?
