Super User Sam Posted January 23, 2014 Super User Posted January 23, 2014 Hey guys and gals, I have not seen anything posted about the new Livingston crankbaits. Anyone out there tried them or are you waiting for the spring and summer? Remember the Lazer crankbaits? They were a fad. Hope the Livingston cranks are not a fad and will work as advertised. Just wondering what your thoughts on the Livingstons are. Quote
livetofish28 Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 I'm friends with a guy who is on there pro staff and he really likes them I personally don't know about them though because I haven't fished them as of yet Tight lines Andrew Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted January 24, 2014 Super User Posted January 24, 2014 ^^ of course your buddy on the Livingston pro staff would like them he gets them for free and he has to like them lol I have a couple on the way in the mail. I will revisit this thread after I try them out. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I just bit the bullet and bought a shallow crank. Looks like a nice quality rattling crank. The electronic sound it emits is very faint and you can barely hear it even if holding it right to your ear. I know sound is louder under water but I would guess that the standard rattles is what would attract the fish's attention. For this price and waaaaaay under I think you can get a better squarebill. 1 Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I think I've seen those advertised on TV lately. Is there some proof that those electronic sound making crankbaits attract more fish or is this another fishing gimmick? What happens when the battery runs out. Can you replace it? Also, their site says the eyes are illuminated. I guess that sounds kind of cool. It makes sounds and they eyes are illuminated. I'm not sure I'll buy one since I already bought one of those Live Target Bait Ball crankbaits and I'm pretty sure that thing is a gimmick although I've not used it yet. Quote
TrapperJ Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Well i just put a hydrowave on my boat so i guess i should give this a try as well. I been holding off on trying one waiting for more reviews, but i may try a squarebill or a JerkBait... like i need any more of those right now. The battery is good for two years, and i dont think you can replace it. Quote
TrapperJ Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 ok i talked myself into it, grabbed old standard black back and chart body square bill this weekend to give it a go this season. Keep myself under control didnt go nuts on purchasing a bunch, this one will have to gauge my curiosity. Quote
JT Bagwell Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I asked someone with the company if you can replace the batteries and the answer is no. Once it dies that is it. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I have a NIB Chartreuse with black back and orange belly squarebill for $10 shipped if anyone wants it. 1 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 28, 2014 Super User Posted January 28, 2014 I think I'll pass. Quote

Crankinstein Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 To answer the question I've heard the batteries are supposed to last two years. As a crank bait addict ive been watching these new lures with quite a bit of curiosity. I'm waiting for a little more feedback before I decide to try one though. Its definitely an interesting concept and it reminds me of the hydro wave a little bit. So far my favorite new crankbait design has been the Rick Clunn designed "freak" and "freak Jr" which has a deep diving square bill which is virtually snag proof and also has incredible action. Quote
TrapperJ Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 When i was looking at BPS there about $11 for the squarebill i thought ive spent more on worse things ha. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted January 28, 2014 Super User Posted January 28, 2014 I tested 6 of them when they first came out. Its a really good quality bait with nice hardware, but thats about it. I didn't see any number of increased hits or catches from it. I also didn't see any decrease. This was done on some small lakes and ponds around here. I would think for a true test you would need some better areas, but for me and my tests, its a no go. I sold all that I had left. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted January 28, 2014 Super User Posted January 28, 2014 I've got one of the medium diving crankbaits. It's got a good action to it and good hardware. It's really hard to tell if the sound and light up eyes really has lead to more fish catches though. On the positive side though, even after the batteries do die, you still have a solid bait to use. Fish Murderer 71 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 electronics belong in/on the boat, not on the line... just my humble opinion! Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I would prefer if it just had the electronic sound. The rattles are so loud and the chirping is soooo low. Quote
Koofy Smacker Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 As a pro staff member myself I can possibly shed some light on what is in these baits and any details which any of you guys would be interested in knowing. First off there are two separate "styles" of baits. 8 second sound cycle with LED eyes Dive Master 14 Dive Master 20 Pro Sizzle Pro Wake 12 second sound cycle with no LED eyes Dive Master Jr. Pro Sizzle Jr. Pro Ripper Stick Master Wet your fingers and touch both hook hangers simultaneously and you will hear the bait emit the baitfish chirping sound. It is fairly faint, but if you have a fish tank put it in there. First time I tried it every fish attacked the bait on the first chirp and it was very audible from outside the water. In terms of the shelf life on the baits it is actually 5 years if the bait is not being fished. It has the ability to emit sounds for 2 years. That means if it gets snagged on a tree underwater it will keep going for 2 years. The battery is actually a typical watch battery and is not replaceable but it draws less current than your watch does. Personally the best part of these lures is that it keeps working when you stop the bait dead. While they swim very true out of the package, have great color schemes and have very good hardware the electronic sounds trump them all. The electronic sound it produces has drawn strikes from inactive fish while sitting still which I have rarely seen. Think of it as having a hydrowave in each bait, but instead giving the fish an exact location of where the noise is coming from. All 8 baits are $11.99 across the board with no need to replace split rings or hooks out of the package. Quote
Jack Fate Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I have a pro ripper I got from Fishound. Used it a few times on Pickwick back in the late summer/early fall. Only thing I caught was a gar Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 29, 2014 Global Moderator Posted January 29, 2014 I could see where the added sound could really be a plus with the jerkbait during the pause. Other than that it seems like the rattles would kind of drown out the other sound. I wouldn't be afraid to try and probably will now that the local BPS carries them. Quote
Rovingmutt Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 I just received mine in the mail from livingston, it's the DM 14, the lights in the eyes stopped working after about 5 seconds, not too impressed with it, live and learn i guess, mutt Quote
