dulouz Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Does anyone know of a good hook to use on texas rigged tubes? I was once told you want to be able to put your little finger between the hook and the bait. The problem I have is that the larger size hooks are too long for the tube. Do any of the companies make a hook made specifically for tubes? I have used Gamakatsu G Lock Worm hooks which are a bit wider than the EWG. I have seen pictures in magazines of tubes rigged with a HUGE gap, almost as wide as the tube is long. Where do I find these hooks? Quote
OHIO Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 http://www.***.com/Mustad_Ultra_Point_Big_Mouth_Tube_Bait_Hook_5pk/descpage-MUSTTBH.html My buddy speaks highly of these. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted December 17, 2010 Super User Posted December 17, 2010 These are the ones i use sometimes. They are called skip gap hooks http://www.***.com/Gamakatsu_Skip_Gap_Worm_Hooks/descpage-GSGH.html Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted December 17, 2010 Super User Posted December 17, 2010 For your average 4"-4.5"flipping tube I use a 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG Superline. I landed on this hook after missing fish on a 3/0 that allowed the tube to ball up on the hook, and after rigging with a 5/0 that was too big. Works for me, no more missed fish, and fits that size tube great. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted December 17, 2010 Super User Posted December 17, 2010 The hook you're looking for is the Owner Rig-N hook. A 3/0 Rig-N hook has the same gap as a 3/0 EWG, but is shorter. Also, unlike an EWG, the point of the Rig-N hook is not inline with the line tie. It sits higher, giving a much better hooking percentage. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted December 17, 2010 Super User Posted December 17, 2010 I usually use a 2/0 or 3/0 EWG on 4'' tubes like the BPS Tender Tube or Cabin Creek Critter Gitter, very thin walls and small profile, collapse easily with the smaller hook. For flipping tubes I usually go up to a 4/0. Quote
J. M. Richardson Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I like the mustad hooks mentioned above for my tubes...extra wide gap to hold the thick body of the tube better. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted December 17, 2010 Super User Posted December 17, 2010 I like the Gammie Skip Jack hooks Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted December 18, 2010 Super User Posted December 18, 2010 Surprised no one mentioned owner wide gap plus.Born for thick baits. The wire gauge is pretty thick on these though if thats an issue for some but the cutting point goes through bone like butter. This is also the ultimate hook on a fat ika as well. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 18, 2010 Super User Posted December 18, 2010 The Rig-N hook and G-lock fit the tubes better due to their shorter shank. Quote
