Jon G Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Im not to familiar with the anodizing process but would some how be possible to anodize the frame? Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I may be wrong, but I believe anodizing is an electrochemical process where basically a metal (which is a cation, or charged positively when ionic) is put into a anodizing bath where some type of liquid which is negatively charged (anion) bonds to the metal's surface. The frame can be anodized as long as it is metal, but the internals will end up being anodized since the whole frame will have to go in the anodizing bath, which might not be good. Not sure though... Smallmouth Hunter Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Do you know if you'll be carrying an aftermarket aluminum drag star for the Curado G series? It'd be cool to have a green accent kit, including the drag star. But since it's only plastic, I'd need an aftermarket part. There is a good chance that any of the star drags from other shimano's would fit since the drive shaft is the same thickness on all shimano reels. A chronarch D or curado E star drag would probably look nice on it.. Quote

I didnt think about the internal part. Darn I thought I would have "solid gold" reels Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted January 29, 2014 Super User Posted January 29, 2014 I didnt think about the internal part. Darn I thought I would have "solid gold" reels You have to disassemble the frame. You cannot anodize all of the internal parts, so you remove them prior to anodizing. Quote

PSN81, aprw1 is correct, the star drag from a Curado E series will fit on the Curado G. I actually have some Curado E series drag stars/cast control knobs anodized already...I have dark gold, blue, red and green available, right now. Send me a message at support@hawgtech.com if you would like to purchase one. Thanks, Mike Quote

Jon G, On reels with an aluminum frame it is possible. I am not offering this service right now, though. The anodizing process does create very small dimensional changes in the part and I am not comfortable doing it on precision items such as frames/spools. For external cosmetic items (star drag/cast control cap) the tiny dimensional change causes no issues. Thanks, Mike Quote
