Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 What kind are you using? I've noticed certain brands are made much cheaper than others also. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted March 31, 2007 Super User Posted March 31, 2007 Get a booyah even though i never used one yet i looked at the diff in them through the package BOO-Yah is clearly the best Quote
Fish Man Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 i have the booyahs an they catch fish an look good duin it.......however i did notice yesterday that sum of the paint on the head is chipping......however im not sure it i caused it or it it was jus normal wear an tear that a lure goes through Quote
Rob G. Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Well do not get the Booyah's they are terrible. I like the Gambler's good hooks. The only bad thing is the blade is aluminum. The Strike King is supposed to be tough, all steel construction. Quote

I love them, great action, love the leverage hooks, very sharp, never ever had a problem with them coming apart or breaking. Jason Quote
Super User Marty Posted March 31, 2007 Super User Posted March 31, 2007 I also haven't had problems with the Booyah. Quote
brian_d Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 They suck. I catch a few fish and then the fall apart. 5 bucks down the drain. Where can I find one that doesn't break. specifically the chatterbait brand or a different one? and what actually breaks? Quote
Baconstrip Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 I get them snagged on cover more than anything else. I think if they bump anything they flip upside down and the hook drags the bottom. I never lose spinnerbaits like these things. And if I try to dislodge them, the blade breaks free of the jighead and the whole thing comes apart. Original chatterbaits are crap. Quote
Fedxpress Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 They get snag very easily, You need to keep them from falling over. Remember they are a jig without a weed-guard. As long as you can feel the blade thumping there pretty weedless, not threw the center of a brush pile though. If you get them hung, get over them and start popping your rod tip on slack line. They will normally come off. The attachment point of the blade to the head is the week point don't try and pull them lose. I would fish these on either medium heavy or Medium rods, not anything stronger. You don't want a big fish to pull off with the jig. I would not use braid with these either. That is why a good sharp hook is needed Just my 2 cents Fedxpress Quote
Super User Munkin Posted April 1, 2007 Super User Posted April 1, 2007 Original chatterbaits are crap. I couldn't agree more! Just looking at the components that make up one of these they are the most s*****y made baits ever. Allen Quote
dwhite Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 You need to remember these were designed for fishing through WEED BEDS. Yes they work in other areas as well. So fishing them and getting snagged comes with the territory since they do not have a weed guard. Quote
shortbasser Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 I have been using the Booyah brand since last fall and have had no problems. They do hang up on occasion but not all the time. Have not had one come apart. Also if you want a chatterbait with a weed guard take a look at the one's made by Venom. They have a weed guard and the blade is attached with a split ring. Well made lure. They come in 1/4 and 3/8 sizes. You can buy additional blades and split rings in a kit. They also have a rattle attached. I have modified one of them with the blade from the Booyah but have yet to fish it. Have a hunch I am going to like it. I only have 1 of the original Chatterbaits and must agree it is a cheap bait. Not impressed with it. Shortbasser Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 1, 2007 Super User Posted April 1, 2007 A few years ago, I was at the Bassmasters Classic Show in Charlotte N.C. where the developers of the Chatterbait had a booth. The selling point by demonstration was the bait would come over limbs without rolling over and getting hung up. They had a water tank with a couple of limbs where they would bring the lure over and it would not hang. I even did it a few times and it convenced my to buy some. Because the blade is attached directly to the jig eye instead of using a split ring like some copycats have now is why it worked like it did. I still get them hung up sometimes in timber, but have started using a split curlytail trailer to lessen that happening. The only bait that is similiar that I have seen is the Booyah model, but I don't trust the connection between the blade and jig for tournament use. The only problem with the Chatterbait I have had recently is with the ones with colored blades. The finish peels off easily with little use. Also I do not like the included trailer that is packaged with them since the orginators sold their company. When I want that type of trailer, I just use the Zoom trailer. Quote
Papa_Tom Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 I posted some time back on another thread that I had no luck on these things. That was last year. This pre-spawn I have lived on this bait. The Chatterbait is the only one I own (after last year I wasn't about to buy more) and I am approaching 300 bass on it this spring. Retired and haven't missed very many days in over a month. Same 1/4 oz bait, replaced the trailer a couple of times with split tail trailers. I throw it on PowerPro with a mono leader--use a surgeon's knot to join them btw. I haven't seen any failures or breakages to date. Quote
gottafish Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 They suck. I catch a few fish and then the fall apart. 5 bucks down the drain. Where can I find one that doesn't break. I use these after paying almost $6 a shot for thr booyah and chatterbait I decided to look for something a little cheaper. This guy sells them for $4 check or money order or $4.50 paypal. They are well built guaranteed if you don't like them in the first 30 days then send back the bait to him and he will refund your money. Can't beat that. Go here and check them out www.tccustombaits.com Quote
Fish Man Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 those look really good but the only thing is that booyah makes color i think its called cortez shad basically golden shiner that noone else makes.and its the only color i have confidence wit for these types of lures Quote
Super User FishTank Posted April 3, 2007 Super User Posted April 3, 2007 I caught alot of fish on the Chatterbait last year but then I tried the Booyah version and I liked it even better. The problems I found with both of them were knots breaking and snags. I fixed the line breaking by changing the way I would cast them and by using a braided knot. As far as the snaging goes, I found that if you leave some slack in the line the bait will turn over. So a slow retrieve with no slack line and no hard jerks works well for me. But bottom line, there are better options out there to catch fish. Quote
Fedxpress Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 They work so well a Kid can do it on a Barbie Pole. This is my 5 year old DAUGHTER, with her white and pink bait. Im just glad nothing bigger hit it today. Poor Barbie. Fedxpress Quote
