Anyone Else Using Braid+Flouro Leader For Finesse?

I did it for the first time this week and it is extremely sensitive, I love it, I didnt lose a single bite!!!

 

I just got sx1 and Im getting everything ready for tomorrow!

Yes. As I mentioned in another thread, the only issue I have is line bow/slack with the braid. This is obviously made worse with wind.

Sunline sx1 with a 6 foot leader of fluro is awesome! Used it up Erie last summer for dropshots and won't drop again without this setup! The sunline sx1 sinks slightly so you don't have to worry about the slack.

I have been using this line setup for saltwater flats fishing for spooky red drum in Florida for years. It works well for all the previously mentioned reasons. I also use it for bass and its the way to go.Sensitive, strong, and doesn't spook as many fish. Just tie the right line to line knot. Uni knot is best for me.

Braid with leader. For everything except crank baits just got some sx1 and fx2 to in spooled 16 pound on my senko rod and have been impressed with the manageability

My ML with a 50e is set up this way and I love it.  With a bait your going to dangle in their face the extra confidence of the flouro is nice to have.  I don't know if its necessary, but I feel more confident in it, and THAT makes a difference.

Pretty much all of my spinning setups are spooled with braid with fluoro leaders.

Yes.  I used it last season for a drop shot and mojo rig on spinning.  

 

Won't go back to straight FC.

It is......Joking aside now..............here is what I do, some people might do it different, but this is what I do:

 

My Spinning set ups have 10lb braid on ML rods or 15 lb braid on M power rods, and I use 6,8,10, or 12 lb leaders depending on the cover/technique. Usuallly 6 or 8lb flouro tied to the 10lb braid on the ML's, and  8, 10, or 12lb fluoro tied to the 15lb braid, on the M's (sometimes I go up to 15lb flouro when I am skipping docks).

 

My casting set ups have 20,30, or 50 lb braid on them. 20 is on my M power rods, and my cranking rods, I use 10, 12, or 15 lb flouro on those, 30 is on my MH power rods, and I use 15, 17, or 20lb flouro on those, and 50lb is on my H power rods, and I use 17 or 20lb on those.

Thanks. Just one other question. If your using 50lb braid for heavy cover and run a 20lb leader wouldn't that just Jeopadise the strength of why you're using 50lb braids anyways? Or are you trying to match diameters rather than strength? Sorry to hijack the thread but my last question.

Really heavy cover  like matted weeds get straight braid. I use the 20lb flouro around tied to the 50lb braid more so for abrasive cover, like rock, wood that is crusted with shells from the zebe's and metal dock post's. 20lb flouro is pretty tough stuff, even when tied to 50lb braid, on a H power rod, it takes a lot of abuse before giving up.

X2...braid has no abrasion resistance against rock, shells etc... but fluoro does. And, yes, you are limited to your weakest lb test. I typically use 20lb Super Slick with anywhere from 12-17 lb fluoro leader, depending on presentation.

most people use larger braid/leader to avoid the smaller diameter or braid from digging into the spool.

Yes I've always have used straight 50lb braid. Natural northern lakes we don't really have to worry about rocks and timber. The only reason I'm asking is this year I have two setups for weightlessflukes/senkos. I'll be using it with 20lb yellow PP and 12-15 fluro leader so I can watch my lines. Other than senkos I really don't even use leaders.

I've using leaders with superlines for more than 10 years. People used to think it was weird or gave me a hard time about it - although now it's becoming the norm. ww2farmer covered the main advantage - being able to use different leaders for different cover and saving the main line - but still getting the sensitivity of the superline.
