Boy, I was planning on going to Lox or Blue Lagoon this week....

After reading through this thread the Alley is looking awfully fun...

The water keeps dropping, and we continue in drought-like conditions and we are in for a stellar season.

Went to MM41 with my son Sunday.  He caught 108 fish on his new favorite bait (a tiny tube).  I caught eleven (flipping).  I'm pretty sure my eleven fish outweighed his 108, but we're not going to go there.  We both had a great time.

I have had two consecutive trips out there the last two days. We had 89 and 107 for the two trips. Today I moved north and my three clients boated 301 bass. I know....just another fish story.... Nope the client kept a clicker counter attatched to his columbia shirt.  There were three guys and they were in shock just three hours into the trip. That was not counting my fish :) Love the glades in the spring!

Shane, you can't beat the glades right now anywhere in the country, for numbers. I bet you and the three guys had ear to ear smiles all day long. Congrats buddy!

I love those fish counters. That's what I use out there. You talk to people and they think you are grossly exaggerating the numbers. Like a fisherman wouldn't exaggerate ..... lol

Took my brother in law and his brother out last weekend.  One is from Mass and the other from Connecticut.  I gave them the option of two different saltwater trips or the best day of bass fishing they will ever have.  They chose to go bassing.  The first hour was a bit slow so I switched one rod to a wacky french fry style bait.  It was game on.  One guy mostly threw flies so half his fish were different panfish (sunfish, warmouth, cycllids and oscars).  They estimated that the 3 of us landed 200 fish in 7 hrs.  I think that's a bit high... it was more like 150 fish.  The bad news is that 148 of them were dinks.  My brother in law landed a 2 lb and a 3 lb bass to take big fish honors.

Weather permitting, I am heading out again tomorrow morning with 2 of my nephews.

Took my kids out this morning to MM38. Fished the north side of the canal. Had a blast watching them boat fish after fish on wacky rigged Senkos. Landed around 60 in two and a half hours. Great place to take the little ones right now.

This time of year for is great for kids.  I wanted to go yesterday with my son  but with the wind and threatening weather I decided against it.

Another great thing about the alley is you can always tie up under a bridge and sit out a bad storm that pops up.  Any time there is a iffy weather forcast I head for the Alley.  I have sat out a few storms out there.  Even caught a few decent bass while tied up under there.

Saturday 4/5/14, Alligator Alley MM 39, 7:00 - noon, clear, wind SW 7 - 10, Had the canal almost to myself.

Went out early myself and ran to the east and the dead end. There was lots of signs of fish chasing bait fish. Started with a Gambler Cane Toad back in the pads. I caught a few in the pads early but this behavior stopped pretty quick. Then went to a senko type bait and starting catching at the drop-off in 10 feet of water. Most were caught on the fall hugging the wall. Decided to throw a zoom fluke weightless along the drop-off. Caught the big fish of the day a 4.5 on the fluke. Finished the day with a wacky rigged Zoom Trick Worm caught another quality fish under the bridge. The glades are still producing good numbers and will continue until the water level goes back up. Finished the day with about 45 caught, two big mudfish and an Oscar. Lots of big gar back in the shallows and the pads. They tore up a bunch of baits. Still a fun place to fish!

I went out fishing with my son, and BIL yesterday. We went off US 27 which is Northeast of alligator alley with great results. We fished from 10:30 - 6:30pm and caught 49 fish, 42 of which were my son's catches. He was using the fluke, and he was having a blast. He kept me busy. I couldn't fish like i really wanted to, but the trip was not for me, he was for him. 41 of his catches were bass and 1 was a nice sized mudfish. To a 7 yr old using light tackle a big mudfish is a catch of a life time.... LOl...

Sunday 4/13/14, Overcast with some showers, wind from the east 10-15.

Went with a friend  to my usual spot that has produced big numbers for almost three months,  Like a light switch the fish almost shut off completely.  Using the same techniques that have been successful over a long period, were a struggle today.  We worked hard for 12 bass, a warmouth, and a big mudfish.  Others around us were having the same problem today.  What turned them off has me stumped.  Good cloud coverage and lower water levels should have had us cleaning up today.  That's fishing for you, you just never know.

I hate it when that happens. Those situations leave me scratching my head on where the fish have possibly gone. I only stepped out for an hour today and I didn't get a sniff. The rain chased me out.

Anyone been out there this week? Any luck?

I will be out there on Saturday. I will post a report then. But I can tell you that the fishing has been great. Yes, some days have been better than others but overall its been good for the last few months. I have been averaging with my brother-in-law 35-50 catches per trip. Range 1-5lbs for us.

Went out to the glades today and fished MM35 - MM41. I was fortunate to have a special guest with me. I finally was able to meet up with MCS, and we had very good time catching some nice fish today. We boated 38-40 fish, biggest came in at 5lbs and 4.5lbs. I lost one that was 6+ and another one close to 4lb. It was bit windy, however that did not slow us down. Overall it was great day with great company.

5lbs Everglades bass

This one came in at 5lbs and its length was 20" caught on a hollow body frog.

Here is a couple snap shots from my trip with Lou. I cannot thank Lou enough it was a great time fishing with him and learning the lay of the land down there. He is very knowledgeable and a great teacher.
