Just curious how many other Northerners on here have already started making large tackle purchases even though we probably

still have a couple more months of frozen water?

I have ordered tons of crankbaits, soft plastics, monofilament, hooks and even sunglasses (in addition to the ice fishing gear I am stocking up on now).

I think, if every week or so I get to mess with fishing gear it makes me forget for a little bit that I cannot go Bass fishing for a while.

Today I also went out to the barn and visited my Triton for a little bit.

More snow right now and -5 degrees tonight means I better order something. Siebert Outdoors jigs anyone?  lol

Haha, I can understand that. I'm planning what I'm going to buy right now. Our house is under contract and we're moving near Lake Fork in Texas, so that capital gain is getting me some gear. I wish it was big enough to get a boat, but I'll take what I can get.

I'm even further up north, MN. I did load up during TW's sale and got two reels and more lures. Funny as it may seem, I have been keeping busy learning basics. This past month I've been learning and perfecting tying knots. I mean I know how to tie a few different knots, but I want to remember a few more and even the ones I know I want to be able to do it quick and efficient.

I made a trip to bps this weekend and came back with some cranks, braid and a few other things. I also have a falcon bucoo rod I can't wait to try out. Spring can't come fast enough.

Every year I go through my tacklebox and I make two piles: the "This got used this year" (aka the "safe pile") and the other pile, which I refer to as the Ebay pile. Typically, I make between $500-$1,500 every winter just selling used gear. Granted, its sold at a loss. But now I have $1,000 to spend on new gear! I mean, its gonna happen anyway, you minds well not be a hoarder and help your bottom line....

That being said, so far......

Humminbird 798ci, unpainted Owner jigheads, powder paint, weedguards, tunsten jigheads, 1000yards of fluoro, zman plastics, powerteam plastics, six Duckett rods, four Lews Tour Pros, a bunch of River2Sea tackle. Can't wait!

I'm with ya. I think I've made 7-8 trips to BPS this winter and will probably have a few more. I've also ordered stuff online from other places. This winter I've bought (so far):

- PQ 7:1

- Pflueger Supreme MGX

- Fenwick Elite Tech SM

- a bunch of cranks, plastics, jig trailers, line, terminal tackle, etc.

- about 25 jigs from Siebert

I seem to look at and reorganize my tackle at least once a week. Can't wait for spring here in Chicago. The last few winters have been pretty mild, but this one seems to be making up for them. It's snowing again right now. No end in sight.

Sigh...

Sadly no :( I really should start though, money is so tight, I need to make sure I buy what ill use and catch fish, rather than buying everything I like... haha

I feel like fishing retailers are missing out on profits by not offering more off-season sales to us cooped up anglers.  seems like there isn't really a sale from Christmas till Memorial day (isn't Presidents day sale next?). I'm sweet on fishing and could use some Valentines chocolate lures.  Or drunken St Patty's day bait monkey..? April Fools who spent their entire paycheck on gear..?

I've made a few small purchases online. I also got a $100 gift card to Bass Pro for Christmas and already spent most of it on lures, hooks, weights, etc. And I just started to save up for my next rod n reel.

I tripped and my debit card fell into a bps cash register

I hate when that happens! I have not yet spent a nickle. Medical expenses have not allowed for it. I may just have to use some of the stock on hand this year. I really don't NEED anything...I will not be happy about it though.

Do you still have a good stash of Paca Craws?

While a man can never have too many Paca Craws, I am probably good.

I make weekly trips to my nearest Bass Pro to get some tackle. I have bought a new tackle bag, a new Citica and a St Croix mojo bass so far.

...and a pair of Costa Blackfins

The more I buy, the closer spring gets. This winter is killing me.

Since it is about 5 degrees here right now, all I can do is dream.  The bait monkey has bitten me pretty hard so far and I've already placed one substantial order at BPS (with my favorite Xmas present, BPS gift cards), and I've got another slug just waiting to go.  First round was primarily plastics I know I'll use.  Next round will be hard baits, but I need to weed out those that didn't see any action last year and see what's left.

I also happened to stop by my local DSG last night for other stuff and amazingly found myself in the fishing area.  They had some nice deals on rage tail craws (one of my favorites), so I stocked up (some more).  They also had Curados marked down to $129.  I'm betting they fall even further once the new version is announced, so I held off.
