Interesting.  Did you happen to change the prop on your motor?  I'm going to see how it runs before I do anything, but I've been told that I should consider changing the prop.

Most of the time it will be just me and probably 1 of my dogs.  The rest of the time it'll be me and 1 other person.  As long as I can plane out I think I'll be happy.

Where do you put in?  Or does it depend?  I was thinking my "regular" launch will be the 3 Mile launch since that is the closest to my house.

Prop - I was told the only prop that might help would be the one they put on a 20hp on a pontoon. But what little I gained would not be worth the expense.

I’m about a mile from 3 mile so I put in there a lot but also like Haycock. I usually put in by 6am after picking up some go-go juice @ dunkin donuts.

I just got a full topo map of the lake. Plus I just installed two lowrance Elite Chirp units – Elite 7 w/navionics in the cockpit & Elite 5 on the trolling motor so I’m going to be all over the lake this year.

Good to know about the prop.

My previous boat had junk electronics on it.  I figured with the new boat I would treat myself to nicer electronics.  I'm having them put a Helix 7SI unit at the helm and the bow.  It's going to be a whole new game learning the lake and learning new electronics.  Yikes.  Where did you pick up a topo map?  Do they have them at the park building?

The map was included in the DVD “How to Fish Lake Nockamixon” by DVO

They included a topo & gps coordinates for all the man made structure in the lake like porcupine cribs etc.

I took the map & split it into 4 sections. Took it to Staples & had them blow each section up & laminate it.

PM me your email & I’ll send you copies.

Have a Crestliner 1650 Fish Hawk with a Merc 20 on the lake and its a real dog. Although the Storm may be a bit better. I replaced my Stock Prop  9.5 x 10 Pitch with a 9.5 x 8 Pitch last year and also added a Stingray Jr. Hydrofoil. It helped for sure but its still a doggie dog.

Pics somewhere in this thread.

Were you out today? What is the temp like?

Posted

Out today, negative. But the last time I was out the water temp ranged from high 40's to mid 50's. Want to get out Friday before the cold front moves in. Fish should be biting.

Picked up the boat over the weekend!  Unfortunately, I won't be on the water until Sunday afternoon.  I'll be starting the motor break-in and trying to tune in my electronics.  If you see a silver/unpainted Crestliner motoring around thats me!

Was out last weekend for like... an hour so windy and cold. Did not see any life in the water. was fishing the tohickan launch area.

Got out on the water this weekend!  The boat ran great.  Only fished for about 45 minutes, but was on the water for about 4 hours breaking in the motor.  Still have a lot to learn about the electronics.

Anyway, a bit of a report from the lake...

I put in at 3 Mile.  Water temp was 58.  In the main lake it was about 56.  There are already pretty thick weeds on some of the points.  Lower end of the lake was pretty muddy.  Seemed like people were scattered everywhere fishing.  Didn't seem to be much of a pattern.  Some people flipping into the shore, others fishing offshore.  Seems like the fish should be in spawn mode at this point? I'm hoping to get out again this week to get some fishing in now that the majority of the motor break in is done.

With water temps near or 60° and the first full moon, some fish will definitely be in spawning mode.

I'm in Carbon and fish Beltzville. I was off today and wanted to do some work on the boat and hopefully get it in the water this weekend. Not going to happen. I wanted to replace the waterpump and had been trying to get the shift linkage to separate, did everything (penatrating oil, heat so forth) finally the shaft broke, So I had to order some parts and I found out the water pump I ordered a year ago is not the right one.

Anyway I went  over to Beltzville this afternoon. Me nothing, but some dude caught a nice one about 100 feet from where I was fishing. So I'm just a bit bummed that's all.

I went last Sunday the 17th and it was super crowded. One of the first great weekends to be out there, not ideal for fishing but good to see the park and lake full of smiling faces. I didn't have any luck but a buddy of mine hooked up with 8 or so good fish before 10AM. All deep cranking 10-15' right around three mile.

So who is catching them?  I went out on Saturday morning at sunrise and fished until around 10:30.  I threw a buzz bait early and had 2 big blowups on it.  They both just slapped at it though, so no hookups.  Couldnt get them to hit a chatter or spinnerbait either.  Thinkin now that I probably should have been flipping into the inside edge of the weedline.

What are your reports?

Read through this thread hoping to find some useful information for a shore fisherman.  No such luck.  Haven't been to Beltzville in probably 25 years or more.  Went with the family on weekends.  When I first moved to this area (Bethlehem) there was a young guy next door who used to fish Beltzville with good luck.  He'd leave late in the evening and return the next morning.  Marriage didn't last long, but he did catch quite a few fish.  Pretty wife, too, but I guess a man has to have his priorities.  :D

I normally go to the fishing pier at Nockamixon, but don't go to the lake very often.  I do get plenty of casting practice in while there.  Caught one 16 inch largemouth off the point on a spinnerbait.  Obviously pressure there is heavy.

Any places on Nockamixon a person on foot can fish with any hope of catching a fish or two?  Preferably not too far from a parking spot as I like to take several combos with me in the car, but only carry two while fishing.

There are a lot of places that you can fish from the shore there, especially now that the shoreline brush is not completely fully yet.  But, most of the "lower pressure" places will be a bit of a hike from any parking areas.

I need a couple gun bearers.  :D

Old Bethlehem rd. (Point), you can go either direction, east to the bluff and coves that are on the north side. Or north to the "high bridge", and the Tohickon cliffs. Second place (north side), Haycock area, there's an old road (past Tohickon launch before the Haycock launch), just pull off to park, that leads down to the Dam point (main lake point), from there head west to the northside bluffs. Southside, park in the lot off Mink rd. From there you can head down towards the dam and spillway, or head west (there's a trail) that heads to the south side point and bluffs. The one thing these spots all have in common, easy access to deep water. Btw, the pier is not bad, very close to the main lake channel and some deeper water close to some nice flats. Tight lines.

I got out for a few hours yesterday morning.  Got 1 small LMB on a crankbait in about 7ft of water.  I missed a hookset on a frog.  She jumped by the boat and spit it at my face.  Looked to be 3lber or so.
