Don't worry about it man. The reason I have nicer stuff is because I'm not that good of an angler and I want as many advantages as I can lol. I wanna put what little factors I can in my favor. Jig fishing takes a crap ton of practice. Case in point, the guy I take guided trips with in Virginia has old beaten down gear and only uses mono. We could fish in 30ft of water and he out fishes me by way too large an amount with what most people consider older, cheaper gear. Practice practice practice 1 Quote

st041986 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I use a skeet Reese jig worm rod paired with a BPS Pro Qualifier 7.1:1 and spooled with 14# Berkley Vanish. It serves it's purpose but I am too a point where I am going to start upgrading to nicer stuff. I doubt I will catch anymore fish than I do now but it will definitely be more enjoyable to fish with! I just bought a new set up and it is a 7'8" Xtra-Heavy Denali Kovert with a Shimano Citica G and also 65 pound power pro My last set up is for a little lighter pitching and it is a 7'3" Heavy Duckett White Ice with a Lew's Super duty. The Denali Kovert is a good rod but boy is it ever over matched by that White Ice. Quote

Abu Gen 2 Revo. STX, spooled with 30lb Power Pro, and a 15,17, or 20lb fluro leader on an Abu Garcia 7'6" MH Vendetta.........."GP" jig work with 3/8-3/4 oz. jigs Abu Gen 1 Revo STX, spooled with 50lb Power Pro, and a 17, or 20lb flouro leader on an Abu Garcia 7'6" H Vendetta.............heavy cover, flipping and pitching jig work. I would suggest that you touch and feel before buying. The NRX are state of the art rods, the negative being price and warranty, the $100 wild card return sucks. St. Croix has a very high performance blank as well though the name escapes me. The best perforning blank in the eyes of custom builders and custom rod junkies is the phenix K2's. Quote

That said, gear "might" compliment a fisherman's skills, but whether that marginal difference is worth the price is a personal matter. If I fished with the same quality of gear I did 30 years ago, I would give up fishing...again...at least until I could retire and move to a place better suited for catching fish. I can't afford top tier gear. However, all my current gear is better than any I ever had before. Nice gear is the only thing that keeps me going out and trying. Although I spent more time on the water last year than since I was a teenager, I didn't go to "fish". I went to try out new gear and to practice my casting. This was enough to keep me happy. The fact that a few really stupid fish were around the boat ramp and hit my lures was just icing on the cake. Quote

There's several more LTB's and curado's in the lineup, but there's other rod and reels brands also. They're my favorite rod/reel combos overall that I've owned but if someone else offers something that I feel will do a specific job better then I'm not so brand loyal that I can't go with the better tool for the job Quote
