Dr. Watson Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I want to hear what y'all have to say about a dedicated all around jig/t. rig setup, money is of no issue cause I am just playing around/researching right now and not looking to buy something anytime soon. My current jig rig is a G. Loomis IMX MBR 843C 7' MH with a Curado 200E7 and suffix 832 #20 braid w/ approx 15 feet of Seaguar Invizx #12 floro as leader. My soft plastics t. rig rod is a G. Loomis NRX 802C 6'8" M XF with a Core 50MG7 and #12 Seaguar invizx florocarbon. I absolutely love both of these setups, but was thinking about trading the NRX in for the MH version (803C I believe). What do you think? Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted January 20, 2014 Super User Posted January 20, 2014 My all around Jig Rods/Soft Plastics - 853C GLX, and 854C GLX. I personally like a 7' rod though, but these are my two "go to" Jig/Plastics rods. - Ci4+ on the 853C and 50MG on the 854C. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 20, 2014 Super User Posted January 20, 2014 My favorite rig is a GLX MBR842C/ Core 50MG/ Tatsu #12 dedicated to swim jigs and small, soft swimbaits. However, I think the tip is too soft for bottom contact. These are my traditional jig rigs: GLX MBR844C/ CTE 200GT/ Tatsu #20, BCR854/ Curado 200E/ Kanzen braid with #20 Tatsu leader, BCR893/ Curado 50E/ Tatsu #12. I will probably replace all of these over time with the comparable NRX version. Quote

Super User 00 mod Posted January 20, 2014 Super User Posted January 20, 2014 BCR854GLX......I have a couple of them and they are always with me! Reels are Shimano 7:1 or higher. Right now is a Chronarch 200e7 on one and a Metanium XG on the other. Might try my new ci4 on one next. I am always experimenting! Jeff Quote

Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 21, 2014 Super User Posted January 21, 2014 Darn! With that kind of budget there is no sense in me mentioning what I use for jigs. I'd be laughed off the forum. 4 Quote

HA, this is where I usually will spend money on a rod too..bottom contact. Even though an ET or Aetos probably is just fine. It's just that when I first bought the GLX I was like in "Heaven" on how it feels to handle and even better to fish with. I am hoping to convince my wife for my birthday to get me a NRX 893C, what she is saying now. Sell some of your equipment, I looked at her like she was a blasphemer asking me to commit a sin. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted January 21, 2014 Super User Posted January 21, 2014 Me too. BUT.............I bet you I catch just as many, if not more jig fish on my "junk". I think "catching" has very little to do with equipment, but it makes the other 99% of "fishing" more fun. That said, gear "might" compliment a fisherman's skills, but whether that marginal difference is worth the price is a personal matter. Quote
Grantman83 Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 1. Dx 745 with zillion 50th high speed and 20 sniper fluoro 2. Dx 744 with chronarch d7 and 15lb sniper 3. Dr. Watson Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 This is great guys, let's keep it going....and it doesn't matter if you have "junk" gear as someone said earlier; it took me some time and a deployment to build the gear I have up from a Zebco 5'6" combo rod . If it works for you then that's all that counts! Quote

Super User Raul Posted January 21, 2014 Super User Posted January 21, 2014 Darn! With that kind of budget there is no sense in me mentioning what I use for jigs. I'd be laughed off the forum. Dude, my most expensive rods are IMX´s, I used to own a GLX and I swear, other than a slight difference in weight I felt absolutely no difference between it and an IMX .... I don´t think I will ever replace my IMX´s for something more expensive like GLX´s or NRX´s, if I can´t feel the difference I see no point in spending 100+ bones in upgrading. For spinnerbaiting, crankbaiting n´such I fish with GL2´s , so don´t feel bad, wanna know something ? I can whup some rear end using a beer can as gear. 1 Quote
