Ima Bass Ninja Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Does anybody use the fish id that comes on some sonar units? Quote
soccplayer07 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 nope, i rather interpret everything myself. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted December 15, 2010 Super User Posted December 15, 2010 No. It just causes excess screen clutter. Your sonar will be far easier to read with the pretty fish pictures turned off. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 No. It just causes excess screen clutter. On mine it seems to be more cluttered with the auto mode turned off and it seems very hard to read. Guess its just one of those things that takes practice (which is on the to do list for 2011) Your sonar will be far easier to read with the pretty fish pictures turned off. Sometimes that's the only fish i get to see ;D :'( ;D :'( Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 15, 2010 Super User Posted December 15, 2010 Nope, much easier to read like this.... Quote
gotarheelz14 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I'm guessing that means you don't use it Jfrancho lol? Not trying to sound like a smartalleck. I just have never used a sonar unit before... :-/ Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted December 15, 2010 Super User Posted December 15, 2010 You are better off without the fish id. Here is a graph shot without fish id. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 15, 2010 Super User Posted December 15, 2010 This is fish ID, the little fish symbols are indicating suspended ballons during a cone coverage test. Obviously they were not fish. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 15, 2010 Super User Posted December 15, 2010 Another fish symbol test view: Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 Thanks for the replies guys..Seems like i may be missing fish or either the sonar is incorrectly determining a fish, either way seems like i will be better off learning to read it without the fish ID. Quote

I practice reading mine while my girls fish. It's good to sit down and play with the settings while you're on the water: speed up the graph then slow it down, make changes to the noise, look for arches then change the setting... find what works best for you and take the time to learn how it works. Sonars seem like they can be plugged in and give you all the answers, but the truth is... it will take time to master. Quote
