No.  It just causes excess screen clutter.  Your sonar will be far easier to read with the pretty fish pictures turned off.

On mine it seems to be more cluttered with the auto mode turned off and it seems very hard to read. Guess its just one of those things that takes practice (which is on the to do list for 2011)

Sometimes that's the only fish i get to see ;D :'( ;D :'(

You are better off without the fish id. Here is a graph shot without fish id.

Thanks for the replies guys..Seems like i may be missing fish or either the sonar is incorrectly determining a fish, either way seems like i will be better off learning to read it without the fish ID. :)

I practice reading mine while my girls fish. It's good to sit down and play with the settings while you're on the water: speed up the graph then slow it down, make changes to the noise, look for arches then change the setting... find what works best for you and take the time to learn how it works.

Sonars seem like they can be plugged in and give you all the answers, but the truth is... it will take time to master.

This is fish ID, the little fish symbols are indicating suspended ballons during a cone coverage test.

Obviously they were not fish.

I miss 48* water.   :'(  Winter is stupid.
