Spro McStick any good

It seems like its a pretty good jerkbait and with a price between a husky jerk and a pointer I think I might need to pick a couple up.  Any opinions?

I never used it personally, but it's pretty hard to find a bad SPRO lure anymore... I'd so go for it.

I've got one that I found stuck in the water willow last winter. About the same size and profile of a Rogue but a more slashing action like the pointer. I like it pretty well. You might check out Excaliber's jerkbaits. They have a smaller one the size of a 78 LC pointer and a bigger one the size of a Rogue, I've done very well with them and they are in between in price too.

Why do you say that the McStick is a knock-off? A knock-off of what? I have talked with Mike McClelland extensively about how he designed the McStick and I can assure you that it is not a knock-off of anything.

McSticks work for me, Norman Flake is an excellent color for murky water.  It's a good bait when the water temp is in the 45-55 degree range.

They work great!  They are weighted and throw great in the wind.  Have excellent hooks and are fish catchers.  They need to keep adding colors to the line. It's not a Megabass 110, but it is the closest thing to it.

I have not done well with the McStick although others have. It was the "go to" jerkbait on Table Rock when first introduced three years ago. Straight out of the package, you may have to weight your bait to get it to suspend, but it does cast very well. The Norman Flake color was the favored color in the clear waters of Table Rock. It has a pretty wide side to side action. I even tired shaving the bill a bit to get more bites, but that didn't work for me either. Always the tinkerer....

I'm not sure why but I haven't done real well with this bait, maybe I used it at the wrong time etc. but I seem to do better on other jerkbaits. I will reccomend the Ima Flit for anyone who's willing to pay for it.

Doesn't pretty much all companies make copies of other companies baits? That's really true with soft plastic companies. Everyone has a trick worm, everyone has some sort or brush hog or creature, swimming tail worm, lizard, craw, beaver, tube. Just because a bait looks the same doesn't mean it is. You could make 2 cranks that look exactly alike but put a different number of rattles in it or make them out of different material and they'll work completly different.

i have used a bunch of stick baits and the mcstick is one of the best i have used .also munkin how can you say spro rips off everybody thier lures have a look of thier own i can tell a little john just by looking at it cant say that for a lot of crank baits if this is your claim prove it.

I watched a buddy fish one, quality bait for sure. But there are so many quality jerkbaits out these days I don't see myself needing one.

I should add - you can catch "Bonus" fish on a McStick also - here's a pic of an 8 lb. carp I caught on one. I would say it's a fluke, except it is the 2nd Buglemouth I have caught on a McStick.

So I am the only one here who thinks the McStick is a MB Vision knockoff? And the SPRO Dawg is not a copy of the Sammy? Like I said I applaud them for the little john as it is an original design.

I tell you what. I will be seeing Mike McClelland tomorrow. I will ask him how many times he had to send the prototype back to the company until they got the bill angle perfect. I can't remember if it was four of five times. I'll ask him if he copied the MB Vision body and bill.

I am sure he put some work into it I just don't think it is an original design.

OK I asked him.

He said when Spro let him design a stick bait he used things that he liked about other jerkbaits and put it into his design. He wanted the action of the Smithwick but he couldn't cast it well in the wind. So he had them put a weight transfer system in it so it would cast a long way no matter what the condition. He liked the body style of the MB Vision but he didn't like how it suspended. So the difference between the MB Vision and the McStick cannot be seen until you get it into the water and let it suspend. You will notice that the McStick suspends with the nose slightly down and the MB Vision almost stands on it's head.
