joetomlee Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Looking for a versatile rod/reed to add to my collection. Already own rods for pitching/flipping/finesse presentations etc etc. Just looking for something very versatile, probably something medium/moderate and 7'0" ++. I've got about 300-350 to spend on this, but no more. Was looking at the St. Croix Mojo Bass sticks and they look nice but not sure what reel to pair that up with or if there might be something better I can get with my money. Suggestions?? 1 Quote
Lewi Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 I say Mojo Bass 7' - 7'3" with: BPS PQ Lews BB-1 Abu Revo SX -Lewi Quote
Gaerith Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Wait for the new curado and 13 reel to come out, then decide. Lots of hype about those two, and if either live up to it it'll be worth waiting for IMO. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 20, 2014 Super User Posted January 20, 2014 Since you are looking for a medium/moderate I assume you are looking for a versatile crankbait rod. If you are not lookng for a crankbait rod, then I would suggest a medium/fast for a more versatile rod. Quote
Hogsticker Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 In terms of versatility, the Fenwick Elite Tech smallmoth mod fast blanks are the best I have used. You can only tell its a mod fast when you're towing a resistance type bait or hooked up with a fish. It fishes jigs and such equally effective and feels like a fast untill you hook up. Both the Dobyns Champion and Champion graphite crankin rods are pretty darn versatile as well. If you want to spend the cash, the Megabass XX rods are about as versatile of a stick you're gonna find. Smallmouth Hunter Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 New curado definitely will live up to hype... There's no question about it. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted January 20, 2014 Super User Posted January 20, 2014 New curado definitely will live up to hype... There's no question about it. While I'm sure it might be, but you can be sure you could get a great deal on the current G model. For 100-110 bucks that would be a great deal. I own B,E and G series and I have no issues with any of them with performance. Quote
Dr. Watson Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 If your wanting a St. Croix, at least step it up to the Avid, more sensitive and made in the US not Mexico plus Lifetime warranty. The Avid has many lengths and actions to choose from, I'd say 6'8"-7' MH Fast, would be the best all rounder. Pair it up with a reel you like and I don't think you can go wrong. Personally I think the older Curado E's and Citica E's are great for all around/multi purpose setups and you can pick them up really cheap now. I think this setup would be wonderful and you'd have money left over to spend on lures and terminal tackle, which makes the bait monkey happy!!! Quote
