115 Optimax Recall

Only have 5 hrs. on my new boat/motor and already have a recall notice from Mercury. This is what the recall is for:

 

Mercury Marine has determined that the screws holding the induction reeds in place on the reed block may not meet torque requirements causing loose or broken reeds on the air handling assembly. This results in reduced power and ultimately poor idle quality.

 

It goes in the shop first thing Monday morning.

That recall was announced 6 months ago. I hear it's a quick fix

I had a similar recall when I bought my 20hp 4 stroke in Jan, 2012.  I had not even run my motor yet when Merc sent me a notice having something to do with some crankcase bolts that might not have been torqued to spec.  My local shop had mine in and out in 3 hours and this required pulling the power head to get access to those bolts.

You would think a company like Mercury, at the prices they are charging for their products and special oil, would get it right on the first whack?

 

Four years ago my friend had his brand new Bass Cat and Mercury 225 recalled due to wrong size rubber gasket in the motor. No charge to replace it but what a let down after paying all that money for a new Bass Cat and Mercury motor.

 

And another friend has spent close to $2,000 having to repair his new Evinrude on his Ranger. Seems the injectors don't work properly. Evinrude fixed them the first time and he had to annie up for the second and third shots at the repairs.

If they knew about the recall 6 mos. ago why didn't they get it taken care of when it was sitting at the dealers lot? Weather is suppose to be great here tomorrow and now I will be at the Mercury dealer getting it fixed instead of wetting a line.

I had the recall done on my 250 with 17 hours.  Sucks to break into a new motor but they found one of my reeds had cracked.  The reed blocks retail for over $250 each plus labor so you definitely need to have it done.

Dropped it off this morning at a highly rated Mercury repair shop, not the place I purchased. First thing they ask is did you buy the boat here? No, you don't sell Bass Trackers why? Answer, we will have to take care of any boats we sold first. WHAT? Is this not a warrantee issue you are getting paid for? He told me 1 to 2 days to fix it. We shall see!

If it's a new Evinrude, the injectors should be covered under warranty no matter how many failures unless it was determined that the cause of failure was chronically corrupted fuel tank. Our experience with Evinrude is that they are very good on customer support, even on items that are "gray area" on the warranty.

That is one of the perks from buying a boat and having it serviced by the same dealer.  If Cabelas told me they put Bass Trackers ahead of my Ranger that I bought from them I would be upset.
