Steerage speed means " bare steerage way" the slowest speed that you can still be able to steer the boat. Keeps wake down. Todd Quote
Super User bigbill Posted March 29, 2014 Super User Posted March 29, 2014 I think I been to Hanover once. Does that have that handicap walkout for fishing? Had 24 Turkey's in the field today. There gobbles woke me up at noon. Another new spinning reel arrived today. I think I'll be trout fishing more this year. Bass fishing seems a long way off yet. Quote
bmac31 Posted March 29, 2014 Author Posted March 29, 2014 I think I been to Hanover once. Does that have that handicap walkout for fishing? I don't think it does. Gonna run over and take a stab at my local farm pond before the rain. I'll let you guys know how I make out. Brian Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 4, 2014 Super User Posted April 4, 2014 I need to go to lake zoar more. I was thinking about going to Batam for great northern pike too. I need to look for a boat soon. Something light I can launch were no boat ramps are. I have some hot spots were no motors are allowed. Quote
bmac31 Posted April 7, 2014 Author Posted April 7, 2014 Got out sat and Sunday for a couple he's each. Hit up a little flood controlled lake in town. It's always been good to me but I got nothing the last two days. Didn't even see any signs of life. I tossed a jerk/Senko/jig/tube and slow rolled a spinner. Brian Quote
RF813 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Same, on sat and sunday.......Got a few hard bites, and reeled in a couple Pickerel. I blame myself for the missed hooksets... But yea, still need to take it SUPER SLOW... Quote
bmac31 Posted April 18, 2014 Author Posted April 18, 2014 Picking up of late. Got out last couple days. Did well tossing the jerk bait. Mostly pickerel but that's better then nothing. Crappie and sunny also active. Bass were small. Felt good to get back out there. Quote
EdsBar Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Where do you wanna go tomorrow morning? 8 Am Brian? No trout ponds! Quote
Subchaser Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Ok another check in from southeast CT, got into bass and kayak fishing last year and I was quickly addicted to both. I'm a catch and release kinda guy because nobody but me likes to eat fish in my family. I average at least one outing a week and have been trying different lakes/ponds. So far this year I've been to Glasgo Pond, Mansfield Hollow Pond and Green Fall Pond(yesterday). The biggest I've gotten so far were a couple of 2 pound bass, a medium sized chain pickerel and a nice sized calico in Glasgo.....but as long as I'm getting fish in the yak I'm a happy camper. Quote
mikey5string Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Did pretty good at Saltonstall this weekend. Alewife were schooling all along the dock side back late Friday afternoon. Got several fish from 2-3lbs on a swimbait and a few on a 3/4 lipless crank. I got lucky when a school just popped up right next to me. Today I got a couple over 4lbs on a football jig close to the bank around brush piles. Still need to officially break 5 pounds. Hoping I can pick off a big female before the spawn goes into full effect. 1 Quote

The other guys I was with didn't do so well either. We fished the whole shoreline down the lake on the boat. On the other hand, Twin Lakes have been popping! Quote
bmac31 Posted June 21, 2014 Author Posted June 21, 2014 Hit up Saltonstall today (saturday). Got there about 615am and Headed left from the dock and fished the shallows and the first drop off. Ground 8 I got into a nice 2.5 - 3lb LMB on a 4 inch lite blue swim bait. He hit it right off the weed line and dove hard. I was using my 15 year old Shimano bc (basically a winch) on a nice med/heavy rod and it was a chore getting her in. She kept diving under the boat. About a half hr later I hooked in the same area what I believed to be a 3+ lb LMB but I lost her next to the boat. Around 11 I got into a 2lber in two feet of water. Got my last one around noon also in very shallow water. All my fish came on a 4in lite blue paddle tail swim bait on one of those hooks with the sliding weight. Brian Quote

wisemanmcguire Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 From Vernon, CT so far i have had lots of luck at Coventry lake, Mansfield Hollow and a number of small no name ponds. The Bolton lakes were hot earlier in the year but now well into summer are almost dead, the chemicals they dumped in didnt help either. Quote
grampa1114 Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Umm living in Webster there was an overwhelming temptation to fish Little Pond... so I did and caught maybe 20 fish in 3 hours but they were possibly the same 12" fish....Hmmm Quote
bmac31 Posted March 5, 2017 Author Posted March 5, 2017 Anyone gotten out this year yet? All open water here in New Haven County. I've beat the bank a few times and had a couple tugs but nothing else. Sure felt good to have the rod in my hand. Wonder how iced up East and West Twin up in Salisbury are. -Brian Quote

I've mostly been using a chatterbait and jerkbait but either moving too fast or using the wrong color. I work up by Salisbury and every body of water has melted between there and Danbury (haven't checked the last two days though). Quote
JustinCT Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 I'm from Central CT and haven't been out yet this year. Probably be end of March before I am. Can't wait for temps to warm a bit and start the spring bite. Quote
PECo Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 I fish any open water I can find, year-round. During the coldest months, I fish for striped bass in the lower Housatonic River. Yesterday, a buddy and I caught three dozen with a 30-inch keeper: I'll be out of town for a while and really hope that I don't miss the yellow perch spawn or the anadromous white perch spawn in the Connecticut River. 2 Quote
