bmac31 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 There dosnt seem to be a big CT population on BR. There's a few really good guys over on ct fisherman that ill try and send this way. Thought we could start a thread to pass on some knowledge. Hope the Mass and NY crews chime in as well. Ill start I'm from new haven county Been bass fishing only a year and I'm clearly addicted. Pumpkin charuste worms worked best last year Ill let you in on a little no fact. Lake saltonstall in Branford is owned by the power company and they will rent you a 14foot boat with life jackets and a trolling motor for something like 35$. They have stocked walleye and I've personally pulled a few 4lbs LMB outta there. Plus the trout get huge over by the flat Rock wall straight out from the dock. I'd check the website to find the days and hrs. I know there open all day sat and sun. But only a couple other days during the week. Quote
RF813 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Danbury CT, here. Lived in the area for about 4 years. I'm originally from Lexington MA, and I find myself up there a lot during the year visiting friends / family. If you'd like to meet up sometime this spring, bmac, i'd be up for that. I'm relatively new myself, but like you i'm completely hooked. (no pun intended). Quote
backwater4 Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Live on long island, but fish all over ct. Candlewood, Lillinonah, Twin, Bantam, Zoar, Ct River. You get the point. Great state for bass fishing. Quote
bmac31 Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 Sounds good RF. Hit me up sometime. I was shocked to learn how good the bass fishing is in CT. Ive never fiahed the CT River any recommendations on a good spot. Hows Indian wells state park area. I have a family friend who lives on the water right by the park. Thanks guys Quote
backwater4 Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 The Ct River is a very good fishery, but it depends on the tides on the lower sections. It takes some getting used to. Coves with grass and pads and main river grass have always worked for me. Quote
Craiger12 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Another CT guy here. I used to get out at Indian Well a lot when I had my boat, but not much the past year or so. I have pulled a handful of 4+ lbers out of there, but wouldn't really consider it to be a very good fishery compared to other places in the state. Mostly went there due to convenience. I'm curious what you guys think of East Twin? I was hoping to get out there this spring, but don't know much about it at all. I have heard people say that it has potential due to the trout population. Any thoughts? Quote
EdKras Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 I'm in central connecticut and fish club tournaments across the state. Quote
bmac31 Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 When is everyone hoping to hit open water by? Brian Quote
Craiger12 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Mid-late March is usually my goal. I prefer ice to be out for a few weeks. All depends on the weather of course. Quote
bmac31 Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 Im hoping to be out 1st week of March. Celebrate my bday in style. Brian Quote
RF813 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 As soon as the ice breaks and i'm not shivering outside, i'll be there. Quote
bmac31 Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 Anybody going to the CT fishing and hunting show? Hartf. Convention Center Feb 14,15,16. Quote

cavemanct Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Just joined site from Shelton. Been lurking for a bit but you made me finally join. I fish from shore. No boat unfortunately. Couple of nice small ponds I fish when ice melts. Last year was March 9th so keeping fingers crossed. I'm also a big trout guy so can't wait for April 19th. Just moved to Shelton in July so looking for more small ponds to fish in the area Quote
bmac31 Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 Looks like my early March prediction won't come true lol Quote
RF813 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 By the way mbac31, thanks for starting this thread. Didn't realize there were so many of us up here. Quote
Tugmaster Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Waiting for ice out. Even if it's just to throw some top waters and spinners for Pickerel. Todd Quote
Will Wetline Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 huskybass, are you still out there somewhere? Would like to join you for a trip on our favorite smallie water in MA in 2014! Quote
Paxton44 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I'm from central CT and mostly fish small ponds around here (Batterson Park, Spring Pond, Farmington Reservoir). I spend most of my fishing budget heading to Lake Champlain every chance I can, but the stuff around here is pretty good too. I didn't know that about the power company at Saltonstall. Do you know about how many boats they have? Can you call ahead? It would be quite the hike to get there and be out of luck. Quote
bmac31 Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 I'd guess they have around 25 boats with trolling motors. They always have plenty boats without and if you bring your own trolling mortor ypu can get the boat for 10$. I probably went 20+ times this year mostly on saturdays and I always got a boat and motor. It mightve helped I was always there within a half hr of opening. There nice guys that work there so a phone call might help save you a motor. Awesome to see all the CT guys. Glad the thread is liked. Maybe we can get a CT BR outing on Candle Wood sometime this year. Quote
Craiger12 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Awesome to see all the CT guys. Glad the thread is liked. Maybe we can get a CT BR outing on Candle Wood sometime this year. I would definitely be willing to get in on that. Unfortunately, I'm a non boater these days though. Quote
dam0007 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Just moved to West Haven from Stratford. What's up everyone. Quote
