I was in need of a new bass setup so I went to Walmart today and found this rod on clearance ($30) brand new that another customer was looking quite hard at, when he put it down and grabbed a newer Abu I picked it up and went to the counter. I was wondering if this would make a good bass rod? It is 6'6" in medium heavy. I would like to pair it up with an AG Revo SX utilizing 20# braid.

I've had a Abu Garcia Conolon for over 35 years I found it to be a very good spinning rod it's about a 7' in length it has alot of whip to get the lure out there.I caught my first 6LB bass on this rod.So you got yourself a outstanding rod which will last you many  years of fishing.

Enjoy.

After careful consideration I went with the AG Revo SX, It compliments my rod nicely and I like the feel.

Since I am new to baitcasting should I start with Mono line for practice or jut go straight for braid (I plan on using 30# braid with a 15# mono or fluoro leader) If using mono what is a good test, 12-15#?
