Hey,

Chris is my name, live in Victoria, BC. We are located on and island of the west coast of British Columbia. Our smallmouth fishing is amazing here but frowned upon by the ministry of fisheries. We have one lake on the island that has largemouth but have had no success catching them.

I am visiting in Phoenix from now till Thursday Jan 23, Looking forward to visiting Bass Pro as we do not have one close to us. While I am here I am hoping to find some kind angler who is in or near Scottsdale that would like to take me out to a canal or a golf course pond or somewhere that has a largie or two that does not mind a hook being inserted into his lip. I do not have gear down here and can get a permit from somewhere if we can get out.

Please help a friend out.

Welcome.

Please ask for assistance in the "fishing" sections with  Arizona included. Best way to request help in a specific area.

Glad to have you with us and we look forward to your posts.

Also, why does the Minster of Fisheries not like fishing for smallmouth bass???

I will try posting there, I might hit up walmart to get a cheap rod and a few senkos, I am steps away from the canal and a few little ponds a short drive away. I will try my luck.

In Canada out east has a lot of Smallmouth and the fishery is strong. Out West the ministy of fisheries looks at both largemouth and smallmouth as an invasive species and fears that it will destroy the native fisheries of both trout and salmon. Most of the fear is on the salmon. However some of the lakes were stocked in 1901 when the railroad came through, Settlers brought bass over and dumped them in lakes along the tracks then later into the 50's the government has stocked some of the lakes on Vancouver Island. We do have largemouth in lakes around Vancouver, all which have made their way north from illegal transporting of fish (the bucket brigade is what we call them). The ministry also fears more lakes being introduced to bass so we are also the only Porvince in which it is illegal to use the livewell in your boat. Which makes it not possible to host a live weigh-in tournament.

The bass comunity is growing but there is very few of us which makes it difficult to change the minds of fisheries. The main reason they do not like bass is mainly due to the fear of loosing salmon.
