Super User Hooligan Posted January 19, 2014 Super User Posted January 19, 2014 I dunno what Z has. It looks like the proto that I've seen, but a different color. The proto that I've handled, I know, isn't going to be anything close to the finished reel- I'm totally blind to what it's going to be. I know it's going to be a substantial change, but that's all I can venture. It's been confirmed, as well, that they are a Classic Release reel. Quote
MediumHeavy Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Unless he was just trying to divert speculation about it being based on an older frame (Rev B?), bantam1 has said that the profile of the reel is a new retooling not based on another frame. He might have just meant older frame, which would be fine by me. If it's the Chronarch Ci4 or Metanium frame style but made of aluminum, I'd like that. At any rate, I'm beyond excited for this. I'm not as hateful or dismissive of the G series, but if they want to make a better reel for around the same price, I'm all for it. I'm very fond of my Chronarch Ci4+, though. So, I'm hoping it comes in a standard 150 size or have a 50 size option available. Quote

Super User aavery2 Posted January 19, 2014 Super User Posted January 19, 2014 Boooo! no 50/51 size Who knows, that post may be as real as the Easter bunny. There are a few reports of guys that have had the reel in hand, and even a report of a sporting goods store that has one on display. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted January 19, 2014 Super User Posted January 19, 2014 I just found this video on youtube of Shimano's 2014 releases. At the end when it goes through all the new products, there is a casting reel that gets skipped over. It's between the spinning reels and the rods. You can't see anything really but I bet that's the Curado. Look at about the 3:07 mark. Some of the rods look cool too, btw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYazOCfILwU Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted January 19, 2014 Super User Posted January 19, 2014 I think it was just showing the Ci4+ because that was the beginning of the cycle of new products that went around in a circle, and you could just see it in the background.. Yeah, you are probably right. Quote
MediumHeavy Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Considering all the reports on a few other forums of people seeing them when reps bring them to shops and such, I can't believe a pic hasn't surfaced. Good job on keeping that ship tight! I can't wait to see the darn thing. And I'm curious what other reels and rods they're going to introduce. Assuming a new Citica? Quote

fowlskies Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 You all have already seen the what the new curado looks like, you just don't know it. I have heard from multiple sources that it looks exactly like a certain reel presently made. Hopefully its like the anteras, that reel is a thing of beauty. Although I heard its the same platform as either the Chronarch ci4 or Metanium. My guess is its going to be the ci4 since they already have a Chronarch in that form, which I find rather ugly. But either way after the G series flopped I'm sure it will be one boss of a reel. Quote
Gaerith Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 About the sale at gander mountain - often times their in store sales and online sales are different. I had a chat with one of their sales people and he told me they often do that to get rid of stuff they have too much stock of, and they will usually honor it in-store (but it has to be the exact model). From what I've seen Dicks works the same way. Its confusing and makes me not want to shop there, but if you're vigilant and willing to ask to check on prices you can find really good deals. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted January 22, 2014 Super User Posted January 22, 2014 I don't like the look of the ci4+ 150 either.. It's sorta over elongated in appearance and a lot of flash was present on the reel seat. Over priced..IMO ! I hear they are really awesome caster. But so are my reels...stock e's and ca 200 te gt's but I maybe wrong Anyway we don't have long to wait now! Quote
Super User tomustang Posted January 22, 2014 Super User Posted January 22, 2014 Many stores do the same, look at cabelas, you can get the daiwa excelsior in store for $35 but the web price is $45 Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Just checked Gander mountain web site again. Still seeing $199.99 for the E series Chronarchs. Am I missing something? Hootie In store only... Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 It is not the same platform as the antares.. I think you will REALLY like this reel. It has all the fancy things you were hoping for.. That's all for now. Quote
