basshunter0731 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 just bought a rapala scatter lip shad any one use it before? any good? I know its new. First time I saw one fished was last year at Beaver Lake. The shad is really light, but will work good on a spinning combo. I have three of the scatter cranks now and have caught fish on all of them. which one did you buy the crank or the scatter shad? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 29, 2014 Author Global Moderator Posted January 29, 2014 just bought a rapala scatter lip shad any one use it before? any good? I know its new. I've done really well with mine unfortunately. I was done buying Rapalas crap...er...cranks until I bought one of those. It's a really unique action and the fish I've caught on it really smash the thing Quote

sizzlefry Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 nice it gives me confidence to buy a few more I got a shad but I will get some cranks next. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 29, 2014 Author Global Moderator Posted January 29, 2014 Huh? I like the DT series and shad raps... I suppose everybody has their thing. I've never had as many baits fall apart as the DT's, almost always the bill coming out of the bait. I've had them pop out while they were bumping the rocks and I've had the lip pull out while fighting fish, at least half a dozen times now. I do like the old Shad Raps, never had a problem with their durability, but I won't be buying anymore DTs unless they're real cheap. Quote

Maybe I haven't thrown them enough or lose them too fast for that to happen? I've certainly heard of the durability problems you mentioned. Now the risto rap... that was a crankbait. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 30, 2014 Author Global Moderator Posted January 30, 2014 For those wanting to be there, don't forget we'll be at Austin's off 151st St in Olathe at 6pm tonight to figure things out for the spring get together! Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 31, 2014 Author Global Moderator Posted January 31, 2014 Alright, I'll try to give a run down of everything we discussed last night. We decided to try to do 3 different tournaments this spring. The first one is the Cabin Fever Trout tournament on Thursday, March 20th at Lake Shawnee in Topeka. This I think should just be a for fun deal, no weigh in or measuring fish. Since trout aren't hardy enough to cull, or even measure and release a lot of the time, we should either just fun fish, or we could do the 1 biggest fish caught. Either way, it should be a good way to beat the winter blues. Not going to do any cooking afterwards because it's probably going to be cold, but we could all grab something to eat somewhere in Topeka if we wanted to. Second will be a 1 day at Melvern on Saturday, April 19th, with a backup day of the 20th if the weather is a wash the 19th. This will be the same deal as last time, heaviest 5 per boat, weight them on a digital scale and turn them loose. No dinner here either but I guess if we wanted to get brave we could go to Beto Junction and eat. Finally, the 2 day will be at Grand Lake in Grove, Ok on May 31st and June 1st. We'll weigh fish just like we have been doing, 5 per day per boat, with the heaviest combined 2 day weight. We'll also do big bass for the 2 days. If there's a tie for first place for total weight, the winning team will be whichever team caught the biggest bass. If there's a tie for big bass, whoever's bass was longest will take it. Bob and Mel were nice enough to let us use both of their cabins for this so we'll have bathrooms, showers, kitchens, everything we need really. I'm asking that everyone pitch in at least $20 a person to give to Bob and Mel for letting us stay and to cover our water and electric use. You can't camp for that cheap so it's really a heck of a deal. We might be able to fit everyone in the cabins but if not there's plenty of rooms for tents and plenty of people have them so we're good on lodging and beds. If anyone has a tent and/or air mattress, feel free to bring them so we have plenty of room and beds. Saturday night will be the only night we're planning on having a group meal. We're going to get a pork butt and smoke it, everyone can just pitch in some money at the lake to eat. This way all we have to do is reheat it and eat instead of starting charcoal and cooking burgers and hotdogs like normal. We can grab some sides and buns in Grove so no one has to worry about keeping food fresh on the way down there. Snacks, drinks, and breakfast will just be everyone bring their own. Sunday afternoon I'm sure everyone will just be wanting to get on the road so we won't be doing food that night. We're planning on going out of Wolf Creek Ramp right in Grove, about 10 or 15 minutes from the cabins. Myself, Jon, and I'm sure some others will be planning on being down there Friday to fish a little bit and get everything set up and ready and hopefully have a good fishing report for everyone. One thing I forgot, Bob and Mel have asked that if anyone plans on drinking that we keep it in moderation. I don't think anyone was planning on making this a big drinking weekend but I know most everyone likes to have a drink after a day of fishing so just wanted to make sure everyone is aware of it. Mr_Scrogg Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 What all do we need to bring as far as pillows, linens, etc? Toilet paper? Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 And, Who is fishing with who? Im bringing my boy, 9yrs old. But have room if someone needs to fish Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 1, 2014 Author Global Moderator Posted February 1, 2014 What all do we need to bring as far as pillows, linens, etc? Toilet paper? It wouldn't hurt to bring your own blankets, pillows, towels, and TP. Not saying we'll need them, but not saying we won't either. We had plenty last time but there was only 7 of us then. And, Who is fishing with who? Im bringing my boy, 9yrs old. But have room if someone needs to fish Don't have that quite figured out yet. I know Curt and Peter are both planning on bringing their boats but not sure if they're going to fish together or not. Right now the teams that I know we have are; Scogg/Scrogglet basshunter0731/Christopher blubasser86/kanasbassfisher08 cbass12/partner Like I said, not sure if Curt and Peter are fishing together or not and then Sizzle is waiting to see if Chris S can fish or not. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 2, 2014 Author Global Moderator Posted February 2, 2014 Something I've noticed and think we should take into consideration, our launch area choice. I like Wolf Creek because it's nice and there's several lanes to launch quickly. Problem is, it's not very centrally located on the lake so it's going to be a long, long run to get down lake for those that are wanting to go that direction. Another option that is actually closer to the cabins would be Honey Creek State Park. The good thing about it is it's a little closer and a lot more centrally located and it's a free ramp. Bad thing about it is it's a 1 lane. Right now we only have 5 boats, so that wouldn't be bad and it looks like it's an easy ramp to get lined up and dump the boats in the water quickly. Just something I thought we should consider so everyone has plenty of options on where they want to fish without running for an hour. Quote
kanasbassfisher08 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 i think launching from the big ramp is gona be out best bet for day one. and we could always launch from dam side the second day if we are heading out in the morning but its alot farther and alot of work to get cleaned up and out if we were to do that. Quote
basshunter0731 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 what about trailing? If we just set a launch time? and be back at the cabin at a set time? Quote
2003Stratos Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 As much as I'd like to make the trip to Grand, I can't get the time off. Maybe next year Quote

Plus, if we do a 2 day combined weight tournament it wouldn't be very fair for whoever is leading if they happen to be catching fish at the upper end of the lake. what about trailing? If we just set a launch time? and be back at the cabin at a set time? I have no issue if people want to trailer and just meet back at the ramp or cabins. As much as I'd like to make the trip to Grand, I can't get the time off. Maybe next year I'm sure you have plenty of sick time man, it's just one day! Quote
basshunter0731 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Its not like we will see each other after the take off its only a 46,500 acre lake. Quote
basshunter0731 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Just down the bank from the cabins. Quote
