TrippyJai Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 I recently recovered from the flu. It's was brutal. I didn't know what to do at first because it had been so long since I had a fever. My body had cold chills and I couldn't warm up, my head was burning and I couldn't cool it. I drank a lot of water and powerade to stay hydrated and always had an ice pack on my head. I ate lot of soup base food like chicken noodle even though I didn't have much appetite. When I was getting better the heater blew out and I got sick again, which absolutely sucked. Fevers are no joke, the worse part of it was when I fall asleep, my head would get so hot, it would wake me up and I couldn't breathe and felt like I was going to faint. Quote

BassnChris Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I came down with the flu 2 weeks ago today. I too was off work a full week. Saturday to Wednesday I could not do anything but sleep. Thursday to the following Monday I got progressively better but not 100%. I felt like I needed those naps too.......just very low energy. By Wednesday I felt about 95%......I thought. Then Wednesday night caught the stomach virus my son had Monday......that kept me off work Thursday and Friday. The flu really weakened me I feel like I am vulnerable to anything now. I got the flu shot 1st week of October and have done so every year since 1984. My Symptoms were: very achy, fever, just did not care about anything. Official symptoms are cold like symptoms, fever, aches, runny nose, congestion...........I think those are them. If you have symptoms that cause you distress....go to ER. Otherwise go to your dr or minor emergency clinic if you want to. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted January 26, 2014 Super User Posted January 26, 2014 if you dont mind me asking what symptoms do you have? I havent really had flu like symptoms and im starting to think maybe i have a sinus infection as well. Just really dont want to go into the drs office in town to find out Started with a fever for 4 days, then the incessant cough, low energy, and general aches and pains. Like others stated started feeling better, but it's been a roller coaster. Feel better tonight. Taking an antibiotic. Go to the doctor. Don't mess with this flu. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted January 26, 2014 Super User Posted January 26, 2014 Antibiotic won't help you with the flu... Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 26, 2014 Super User Posted January 26, 2014 I don't understand why getting the flu shot isn't the most important thing everyone does? It does not cover every strain of the flu just the strains they design it for or what strains of flu they think will be the worst that particular year... Some years it doesn't work but if it works once every 10 years I'm running to get my shot every year! I never mentioned this, but guys keep this in mind and consult someone if your feeling sick for any reason before you get a Flu shot........ Just this past November...two months or so ago now, about two weeks before Thanksgiving, my mother died. She got very very sick after getting a flu shot, granted she was not in the best of health for a 56 year old women before getting the shot, and maybe she should have never gotten it in the first place (I don't think your supposed to get one if your sick from something else) but she did. I have never had the flu, or gotten a shot, now... I am not going to turn into anti-flu shot/the shot kills you guy, but this situation has made me very leary of getting one myself just blindly, and if I ever do, I will dang well be sure I think long and hard about it, and find out as much as I can about the shot I am getting. Super User Redlinerobert Posted January 26, 2014 Super User Posted January 26, 2014 So sorry to hear of your loss. There are two schools of thought on the flu shot. Some feel it helps, others not so much. True, you are not supposed to get the flu shot if you are already sick. Feeling better today by the way. Going to probably take another week and just stay home until I kick this. Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 sorry to hear about your loss ww2farmer. ive heard other stories of people having negative and even crippling reactions to the flu shot. one was a redskins cheerleader a few year back. which is part of what makes me hesitant to get one, when ive never had one and had gone year without getting the flu. and even though i had a hell of a bout with the flu this year, im still hesitant to get one next fall/winter Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted January 27, 2014 Super User Posted January 27, 2014 I've been avoiding this thread so I wouldn't jinx myself, but Red Earth, you descibed exactly the symptons I have perfectly in your opening post. Day 2 of feeling miserable! I hope you all get well soon. Quote
aquaholic Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I feel great today, think im going to go snow blow the driveway. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted January 27, 2014 Super User Posted January 27, 2014 Just getting over it. It knocked me on my butt for three weeks. I'll never miss another flu shot. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted January 27, 2014 Super User Posted January 27, 2014 Glad to hear you are doing better as well Mike. I feel exactly the same way. Will NEVER miss another flu shot either! Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 28, 2014 Super User Posted January 28, 2014 We had a 19 year old who was training to be a firefighter and who was getting married in March die in the Richmond, Virginia area on Thursday of last week. Understand he was a great kid; no trouble; played in his high school band; and always wanted to be a professional firefighter. He got the flu and complained about chest pains on Wednesday. He was going to the doctor on Friday and he passed away Thursday night from heart problems. What is confusing is that he passed his physicals to be a firefighter and just got through some physical firefighting training where he performed very well. Terrible loss to his family, fiancé and the community. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted January 28, 2014 Super User Posted January 28, 2014 That is horrible. Again, this flu is no joke. Stay safe people. Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 my boss and his wife, were telling me they had a friend pass away last week with what started as the flu and misdiagnosed as a sinus infection and turned into double pneumonia... Quote
