pbizzle Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I've been fishing the YoMamas for about a year now, and they've become one of my favorite beaver style soft plastics. The smaller size has always been a proven tatic for more finicky fish. They perform really well on a light Texas rig, shaky head, and as a jig trailer. Well, I'm always looking for something that performs better, so today at Walmart I found some Strike King River Bugs at an awesome price of $2.96. That's a really competitive price point, and even 3 cents cheaper than what I've been paying for the YoMamas which are super cheap any way. They both come in packs of 10, but the YoMamas seem to be easier to find. I bought a pack of River Bugs in green pumpkin to try it out. I didn't realize how small they actually were in the store, but when I got home I realized that they're only 3". The same size as the smaller YoMamas. That's when I compared the two side by side. I realized that they're the exact same size and shape. The YoMamas appear to be made of a softer plastic and use more salt, but I have had durability issues with them in the past. The somewhat stiffer plastic and lower salt content in the River Bugs may fix this problem though, although I'm not really concerned because of the price. I was expecting these soft baits to be similar to the perfect plastics, and was disappointed to find out that they just had a run of the mill feel and scent to them. I'll post some pictures I took comparing the two. Quote
RandySBreth Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 You might check out the "Salty B-Bugs" at lurepartsonline, too - same lure maybe in different colors and maybe texture. I like them. Quote
arknsawchuck Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I just read on the KVD forum web site that Strike King stopped making the river bug and sold the mold to Big Bite Baits. I'm guessing the ones we are finding at Wal Mart are left over stock. They must have alot of left overs because they are at all the Wal Marts around my area, except the green pumkin color is out of stock at the closest Wal Mart to me. 1 Quote

It's one of those bait designs that is thrown out there and any company willing to pay the price of admission gets to produce their own version of it. They're in production under Tight Lines UV, Big Bite Baits and Overstockbait house brand to name a few. A number of Ebay sellers pour their own using a mold kit of the bait too. I really ike the flappy beaver tails of the bait. Great bait design. Quote
Blues19 Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Ive caught a bunch of fish on them as jig trailers. I guess I better get to walmart to see if I can find a few more packs before they are all gone. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 12, 2015 Global Moderator Posted January 12, 2015 Netbait B Bug comes in a 3.5" size in a 12 pack for $4 and a ton of different colors. I really like the bigger version for flipping but if you like the smaller sized baits it might be one to check out. Quote
BrianAllan87 Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 I love the SK River Bugs. Didn’t know they stopped making them. Time to buy up any stock I find left. Quote
