I caved in and bought a Revo SX gen3. I'm liking it so far (casted in the yard for a while). Only thing I can't understand is the spool tension didn't really tighten up that much. So I took out the little metal clicker inside, and now it seems to be working. Anyone else have the problem? It seems smooth, but not overly smooth. The bearings seem to be really fast and takes awhile to slow down. It feels like heaven on my *** 7' 1" mh though. It balances right on the 13 emblem on the screw down. So what do you guys think, if I don't have any problems, you think I'll become a Revo lover? haha (I have Lew's and Daiwa, so don't shove them down my throat either(:

I've also been thinking about the Revo S, I heard it casts lightweight lures really good, whereas the SX does not.

I do love my gen 3 sx I traded for here on the forums about 6-7 months ago. My spool tension got tight enough, but I'm not complaining because I run mine just enough to eliminate spool play from side to side.

As to casting lighter lures vs the s, I can cast a weightless fluke quite a distance with 10# Abrazx on. The distance rivaled my 50e at the time, but the sx was more comfortable, so I sold the 50, which is a great little reel, so that should tell you something

Return it if you have any doubts. The gen 3s have had a lot of problems from the factory imo

Gen 2 spool tension was like that. You had to tighten it almost all the way to make any difference and it felt like it was either on or off because the gap between clicks was too great.

That doesn't sound right. It's possible that the metal thing may not be sitting flush and interfering when you go to tighten it. I think that part is really to give you the clicking sound and nothing more.

I'm liking it so far, have just been casting in the yard. It's not the smoothest but the bearings seem to be the best quality that i have now straight from the factory, they spin like crazy. The only thing I don't like, is it has a little bit more play than I would like on the handle/shaft.

Some daiwa reels seem to have this issue as well, and a quick fix (found by a member named ninjaman on TT) is to take plastic covering/packaging from a clamshell package, and cut a circle the diameter of the spot that the drive shaft bearing goes in. Take the small circle, and put it in that hole, then put the bearing on top of it, and the rest of the drive shaft assembly.

(11 posts down on the 2nd page of a thread called "Steez EX handle play from left to right + clunks" on TT to see pics.)

Compared to my Daiwa Tatula, except the weight and ergonomics, the Tatula seems like a much better deal to me now. Just thought i'd let you guys know about it. The break system doesn't seem as good as the magforce z, and you have to thumb a lot more to be safe. On water might change my perspective, but my Daiwa seems better as of now.

I have had both the tatula and the revo sx. FWIW I sold my SX and used the money to buy a Tatula. Couldn't be happier with that decision.

I was just thinking that! haha  I'm planing on fishing with it this season, and then figuring out what I want to do, I'll probably use it for lighter jigs and plastics
