Anyone have any experience with this rod either spinning or casting I know they are new and I am interested in picking one or two up just don't know much about Lamiglas or the rod specs sound nice though.

i picked up a lamiglas excel casting rod for the wife last year, she liked the look of carrot sticks, but theyre junk and i came across the excel.. its been a very nice rod IMO.. we've caught several nice fish on it and had no issues.. only thing i dont care for is the hook keeper on the handle

I don't mind a crappy hook keeper because I can always put a new one on it.

Lamiglas and Loomis are located in the same town and have similar rod making talent, exceptional customer service. I am not familiar with the new Excel II, however from the photo, specs and price point the rods should be good. Give Lamiglas a call and ask if the rod can be returned if you are not satisfied or if there is a retailer near you. Touch and feel helps a lot!

Tom

PS, I have been fishing Lamiglas rods over 35 years.

The Excel II became available ~12/22/13 and VERY limited availability at that point.  The actions have stiffened up a bit from the previous Excels.  I have an Excel II (735) on it's way, I'll be glad to post about it when I get it.

Please and Thank You that would be very helpful I am very patient when it comes to buying gear now since I live in Ohio and it is 20 degrees and waters frozen over until April.

Lamiglass factory is located in Woodland Washington. Interesting the sticker on the butt cap reads made in China.

Got home this evening and it was on the front steps.  First impression:

Nice rod, finish work is good.

Color is pretty cool, nice understated pastel navy blue (you'll see).  From a distance it's a slate black.

Grip diameter is pretty small for my paws.

A bit tip heavy with Daiwa T3B (7.5oz) felt way better with my Zillion (8+ oz), which makes sense with a 7'3" rod with no foregrip and a split rear grip.

Going to be my dedicated Carolina Rig rod, so the tip heaviness isn't really a concern.

I'll post the pix in the AM.

Sorry for the delay in posting the pix.  They make the rod look very purple and it's not, I included a picture of what the blue really looks like (the Audi picture).

After a bit more fondling I found some cool little touches.  The winding check for the rear of the grip and the butt are rubber, the others are all aluminum.  I like the softer materials used in areas where my hands would go.

I love the hook keeper they use (small, on the bottom of the blank, and no moving pieces).

Blank is straight and guides were aligned perfectly.

I don't like the fact that the Ghost rods have chrome inserts on stainless guides, if the guides were stainless with aluminum oxide or even stainless inserts then fine but chrome inserts won't last, especially using braided line. I don't know what the warranty of the Ghost rods are but any more than 3 years and Duckett will be doing a lot of warranty replacement because anyone buying a ghost flipping stick is more than likely using braid and chrome inserts don't like it. Grab the Lamiglas, both are made overseas but the Lamiglas has a lifetime warranty at the same price point and from what I was told directly from Lamiglas was the blanks are very similar and use the same graphite pre peg used on the regular EXcell, just some cosmetic and component differences as well as where they are made.

Tackle Warehouse has them listed as a lifetime warranty.
