Now i know that Duckett finally released their ghost series of rods and I really want one, but a couple other rods for 99 bucks have peaked my interest. Namely Cabelas just came out with their new tournament zx rods, which have an eva foam grip overlayed with a grip kinda like a tennis raquet. funny thing is I already have a duckett white ice that I went ahead and put a tennis raquet grip on. But boy I do love me some micro guides! Im torn on what i should do..plus i have giftcards for cabelas so i would be paying half the price on the zx rod. since the ghost series hasnt hit cabelas shelves yet. so i need help deciding on which one or if there is other rods i should be looking at. Thanks!

If you give the guys a little more specifics about what your new rods will be used for, they may have a more specific answer for you.

I just bought one of the new Duckett Ghost Rods after going to my local shop and holding one for awhile. But I got the 7' 6" Extra Heavy for Flip'n / Frog'n

I don't know about the new Cabelas one, but I got a good year of fishing, and by a good year, I mean a GOOD year of fishing with the Abu Garcia Veritas Medium Heavy for Texas Rig'n. I really do like this rod, a lot. I paired it with the Revo S, and it's sensitivity is really good to me. That being said, while I don't have any water time on the Ghost series yet, but again from holding it, I think they'll be competitive in the $100 price point for awhile to come. I wouldn't hesitate to drop the coin on the Ghost either.

So, Veritas or Ghost series I think you'll be happy with.

There's also a few other names that get tossed into the $99 category, at least when I asked awhile back there was. *** *** series, Falcon, Shimano Compre, Denali Jadewood series... take a look at any of those too.

Besides those already mentioned:

fishusa has the Fenwick Smallmouth series for $99.95.  Excellent rods if they have one with the specs you want.  I've been told the new Fenwick HMG rods are very nice for the money.  No experience with those, tho.

I was gonna go with a m/h for an all around rod not anything specific I'll probably be using crank baits both square and deep divers. throw a light t-rigged creature or worm on it as well. im up north so i dont have to worry much about huge fish. thanks I will look into some of those

The 2 Abu rods I have (a Villain spinning and baitcast) are a bit heavier than rated.  It seems others have the same opinion of their Abu rods...including the Veritas line.  I have absolutely no idea about the Ghost rods.  You might want to consider a MF in the Veritas line with mono or fluorocarbon for an all-around rod.  A MHF might be too powerful for crankbaits.  My Villain casting rod is the 7'6" MHF.  This rod is rated for 3/8-1-1/4 oz.  Forget 3/8 oz.  1/2 oz. in a pinch.  I plan on sticking with 5/8 oz. and above with this rod.

Another to mention is the *** *** black. If I remember correctly a Medium Fast 6"6-7'2 rod is versatile. It would be better to get another rod for deep cranking.

+1

I love those rods and I just bought my second one(sale at gander mountain for $80 instead of $100)

I fondled some of the ZX rods at Cabelas. I wasn't very impressed. They were tip heavy, and heavy all together. They all felt kinda moderate fast to me, which I actually prefer, but the blank diameters were thick and huge. If I were set on a new 100 dollar rod I would swoop up a new Fenwick HMG. A whole lotta rod for 100 bucks IMO

I'm a huge fan of the veritas, for an all around rod I would get a medium if you end up getting one. Although I like them I'm not sure a veritas would be my first choice for cranks, if that's what you primarily fish they make a winch version which has a more moderate action.

I agree 100% with Hogsticker, if you spend 100 bucks, grab the new Fenwick HMG, the components are great and will last and the best part is they are backed by a lifetime warranty and Fenwick has great customer service, they are IMO the most rod you can get for 100 bucks.

I picked up the tournament ZX 7'2 jig and worm last fall and only got to fish it a few times but was very pleased. The Winn grip is extremely comfortable, the rod action is crisp and dialed in for the application, and the rod just feels light in overall weight. I'm looking to pick up a spin model for the spring. You can't really go wrong with any of the rods that have already been mentioned in this thread though. Good luck!

Bass pro Carbonlite EVERY time in that price range. Truly a great value and fine rod.
