A few years ago, my brother my dad and i went fishing on a slow moving river in elkton va. My brother was in a canoe with a paddle and my dad and i were in our jon boat. We pretty much just fished within sight of each other all day, sometimes right behind each other. After all day of fishing, no one had a bite at all, not even a nibble. So we called it a day, headed for the dock disapointed. But my brother was determined to not give up. About 75 yards ahead of us he decided to let out about 30 yards of line and troll a top water bait behind him( a jitter bug ). So with his pole setting behind him, he was paddling away not paying attention. So we slowly brought the boat up beside his lure swimming in the water, and i reached down and grabed it and gave it a few good tugs and dropped it. He almost flipped the canoe trying to get to his pole. He reached behind himself with one arm and set the hook with all he had. When it was all done he was floating sideways in the canoe and the paddle was floating the water. He went on to tell us how he just missed a nice fish and if we saw it or not? I had to break it to him what i did, he laghed at first, then seemed a little upset. Ha...thinking back , it must have been heart breaking to miss a fish after you havent had a bite all day. And then u find out the fish didnt even exist! I dont know what i was thinking, if i had not dropped it in time, i might have 2 sets of hooks in my hand ! Ooooooo....that would leave a mark!

Anybody done anything like that before?

Haha. Interesting story. I might have had to laugh as well if it happened to me. All in good fun!

Any prank you can pull on a true friend, without causing harm, is not only allowed, but encouraged!  After all, that's what friends are for!

I agree. If you aren't catching fish you may as well have a good laugh.

Trout fishing with a friend using bobbers and live bait. I accidentally crossed his line when he wasnt looking. i was kinda embarrassed to tell him so i gave the line a twitch...his bobber went under...but no fish. again once more but still nothing. Finally the third time he set so hard that the top half of his rod came off and slid down the line. :)

There's no evil in a little horseplay among family and friends,

but just as you've reaffirmed, horseplay has a reputation for ending badly.

I probably would've done the same as you, or I might have been less honorable than you

and withheld my little secret. Not to spare myself, but to spare my brother.      Thanx for sharing your story   :)

Best one i ever heard and still makes me laugh. Guy grabbed his buddies baitcaster while he was sleeping and cut a big length of line off with a buzzbait tied on still then ran the length onto the spool over the main line. When his buddy went to toss out his first cast of the day he sent his buzzbait clear into the woods lol.

We make it a point to play pranks on each other during the fishing day. One of my favorites is to try to cast a sinking bait across the area my buddy is fishing without him noticing. Then next time he casts he crosses my line and all I have to do is wait until my line starts to move and give it a big jerk  :laugh5:  The reaction to the huge bite they just missed is always awesome.

A good prank is never wrong, as long as no one gets hurt badly.................and even then it can still be pretty funny to some people.

No, it was funny.

My cousin did that to me when we were saltwater fishing.

I got all excited and then laughed. Great punk.

What I always wanted to do was to use a rebreather and get in the water, pick up the plastic worm like it was being hit by a big bass, fight the fisherman like it is a big bass and then take a dink I have with me and put it on his hook and let it go as the bass that was making such a big fight.

Now that would be funny.

I removed the trebles from my kids lure once. It took him a couple missed fish to realize what was going on. He's 21 now and still talks about it. Don't worry he had caught 12 nice fish that day. Way more than his dad as usual
