Spinning reels in the same price range.. will be using on a dobyns champ 703 for shakyheads and occasionally flukes.. Opinions?

All my baitcasters are lews.. but I have heard to avoid their spinning reels.. so this are the two best looking to me.. any other suggestions near this price range 100 dollars or more if on sale.. but need to spend no more than 100.. Let Me Know!

the Pflueger is about as good of a spinning reel as there is for that 100 dollar range, but i think the shimano is a close second. quantum has some good offerings especially when on sale, but i think the two you already mentioned are about as good as it gets.

The MG can be had for 75 bucks, well worth it, I have 3 of them for bass fishing.  The supreme xt I've seen at $107, same place, sounds like a winner too.  Both reels have drags than can be precisely set and operate smoothly, cast well, effortless retrieve, not sure what else a spinning reel is supposed to do.  My mg's have been tested over time, one of them used in salt for nearly 2 years.  Quite honestly there probably isn't going to be a noticeable difference in the 2.

Being an owner of lews and shimano, i will tell you my lews is very nice spinning reel. Drag is smooth, reel is smooth.. But i have a shariah and a symetre...you will not be disappointed! I got mine at BPS outlet store, due to a damaged/ cut box, brand new for 60.00! Talk about a steal! That reel is awesome! Now i have owner a few different brands, Abu,daiwa , lews , shimano, quantum... And the cheap ones... Daiwa is junk, customer service is even worse! As for the others i know abu service is second to none! I have not had any reel problems other than daiwa. I own mainly shimano spinning and lews bait casters . But i would buy shimano given the choices .

I have the last model of Symetre and love it. The Symetre also pulls in 5 extra inches of line per turn (35 for Symetre vs 30 for Pfluegar).

I don't have that exact Pflueger model but I do have two Supreme XTs and I can tell you they are great reels. The XT definitely has the nicest bail on any of my spinning reels and its magnesium construction makes it super light. I've had both reels for 3 season now and their still going strong.

As far as quality and durability are concerned they're both solid. The difference in IPT may sway you one way or the other. From a servicing standpoint I like Shimano's A/R best of all since it's an enclosed unit.

Pfluegers are better from a performance standpoint.  I used to say that until 100 dollar price point, Pflueger was the best.   Hands down.  No argument.  I'm bumping that to $150.  I don't think any spinnign reels made are as smooth or nice as the Pluegers at their price points.  Above $150, I'd go shimano.  Below, Pflueger.

There is more to a good performing reel than just being smooth.  I've got a Shakespere agility that's as smooth as any $200+ reel I own, but it's far from being a quality reel.  Questions to be answered about any reel, how long might it last, will it get "grindy" as some spinners do, drag precision and performance, line management and how the reel handles the elements of weather.  Being strictly a spinner user and owning just about every major brand, it's my belief that I don't have to spend more than $100 for an excellent freshwater spinning reel and $150 for salt, and starting to think that might be a little high for a light duty inshore reel.

Don't know about the Symetre but the Pflueger is a solid reel.

Not from actual use, but I handled both the lexa and lews at the same time the other day in a store, no comparison in my mind which reel I preferred or would buy.

Which one did you prefer?

Hate to make the owner of the one I didn't care for feel bad.  I will mention again, only my Pflueger's have never seen a repair facility, for about a 100 bux I'd  probably at another floog.
