A girl I went to high school with called me up and said "Hey my husband has some fishing stuff for sale, I know you fish a lot, and we're trying to sell some stuff off since we're moving. We could use the cash and get rid of some stuff at the same time."

So I ended up asking what she had, which happened to be 4 brand new Denali fishing rods that he was wanting to get rid of that were collecting dust in his closet. Still had the plastic wrap on the handles. Anyway, I ended up getting all 4 rods for $200. There's 4 rods, two sets of the same rod. Two Rosewood custom spinnerbait and two Rosewood custom crankbait. Was wondering if you guys thought this was  a decent deal and should I keep them and use them or just try to sell them off? I've never fished with Denali so, it'll be a first if I keep them. Right now I use Veritas stuff and love them so far.

I looked them up and I actually had to call Denali on one set of them, because I couldn't figure it out, they are

Denali Rosewood Series 842CB - TW has this one for $189.99
Denali Rosewood Series 782SB - $169 on Independent Tackle

The reason I had to call is because the 782SB wasn't clearly marked concerning what edition it was, Jadewood, Rosewood etc. The gentlemen named Pete at Denali said that it is in fact a Rosewood rod, albeit the earliest edition of the rod, so the markings are different. So anyway, he looked it up and found it for me, it's a Rosewood model.

Anyway, the scenario I'm facing is, I'm trying to get me together 6 decent rods to attack my monthly bass club tournaments with this year, and these two fill two of those spots in the Spinnerbait & Crackbait roles, going to let my dad have a couple of them to use as well, or at least he wanted them he said.

6 Rob plan consist of:
1. Flipping / Pitching / Punching / Frog

2. Topwater / Jerkbaits

3. Crankbait Rod

4. Texas Rig / Some Jigs (Abu Garcia Veritas / Abu Garcia Revo S

5. Spinnerbait

6. Spinning Rod for shaky heads/finesse work

As  you can see the bold is all that I have so far. Got it last year and love it. So these rods would fill two spots for me. I'm leaning toward keeping them unless somebody has a different rod I should sell these for to replace these two.

Being I've never fished with Denali, I don't know to much about them. Whether I should keep them and put them to good use, or should I sell them off and get me something that you guys would recommend? Any advice is appreciated.

And while we're at it, does anybody got any advice for what gear ratios etc I should get for Cranking and Spinnerbaits? 7:1:1 - 6:4:1...  any ideas?

Keep one of each and sell the others, they should net you enough to then buy reels for the 2 you kept and boom!!!! Half your arsenal is filled.  The Rosewoods are really nice rods and should you want to sell, they should get good $ pretty fast.

Gear Ratios

Cranks (pretty personal...) anything around 5:1 is sort of a guideline.  Some will say 2:1 other say they deep crank on 100:1 reels, it is really pretty personal, but starting with a 5ish:1 is what most people do.

Spinnerbaits go with anything 6+:1.

Thanks for the reply. Only problem I see with keeping them is that ol' Pops wants a pair of them haha. Can't turn ol' guy down you know...

Give dad a pair and keep a pair. Give them a try and if you don't like them, sell em. You're already way ahead on the deal, so might as well give them a try.

At $50 a rod you can fish them and still sell them for $100 each shipped if you don't like them. You'd make about $25 off each one at that price. It's a way better rod then the Veritas so you'll probably end up keeping them.

I have no idea about these rods, but since you pop wants them, try before you give to him, so that you can decide if you want to keep a pair yourself.

I recently had a similar situation. I scored Fenwich Elite Tech Smallmouth off of eBay. Basically I paid price of one for two brand new rods shipped. My thought was to try one first, if I like it I keep both, otherwise I sell second one in brand new condition with plastic and tag on it. (I kept both  )

I have 9 of the various Denali Rods.  I recently joined the Denali Prostaff team because of the great rods that they sell.  I have the Rosewood spinnerbait rod as one in my arsenal and absolutely love it.  I think that once you use the Denalis, you will want more.  I feel they are the most sensitive rods that I have used in a long time.  Just my 2 cents.

I would definitely hold on to them, the rosewoods are great rods it will be hard to replace them with anything better for the money that you have invested. if the rods are still in the plastic maybe you can swap them out for two other rods that you want if you order from Denali and return them in the tubes that your new rods come in. I don't know if they will but it is worth a shot. the Kovert line is the most recent lineup of rods to be introduced from Denali and are great rods for the price. as far as gear ratio go with 5.1 for  crankbaits and 6.3 for spinnerbaits 7.1 for flipping 6.3 for jerkbaits and  topwater .I have been fishing the Lews reels which are also available for purchase on Denalis website for about 99 bucks each. good luck with your tournaments this year

Wow! Great score coots. I just got a 7:1 reel, I like it for spinner baits and buzzbaits. Also can really burn a lipless back or a couple fast cranks then kill it.
