I use bread all of the time but mostly for the bluegills, sunfish, crappie and Oscar. That was how my father introduced me to fishing 30+ years ago in Kendall and it's how I got my sons into it. If you hit a good spot you can pull out 15-20 1/2 lb to 2 1/2 lbs panfish in 15 to 20 minutes. The smaller the hook and pea size ball of bread, the better the chance of hooking them. Smash the barb on your hook so it comes out easier. My son did catch a 2 pound LM once with bread but I think that was just luck, he kept dropping it in and around a nest until it hit it.

I caught a 5# bass while fishing for bream with bread balls in a Coral Springs canal as a teenager. A friend of mine also caught one using a wad of bubble gum once.

You never know.
