WestonFLBassFishing Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 My brother caught his personal best largemouth bass 5 pounder on bread. Has anybody else had luck fishing south florida with bread? Quote
AGamarra Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I use bread all of the time but mostly for the bluegills, sunfish, crappie and Oscar. That was how my father introduced me to fishing 30+ years ago in Kendall and it's how I got my sons into it. If you hit a good spot you can pull out 15-20 1/2 lb to 2 1/2 lbs panfish in 15 to 20 minutes. The smaller the hook and pea size ball of bread, the better the chance of hooking them. Smash the barb on your hook so it comes out easier. My son did catch a 2 pound LM once with bread but I think that was just luck, he kept dropping it in and around a nest until it hit it. Quote
jonnysmith Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 ive got all sorts of fish with bread balls thruout the years . bass dont really like bread, they like more of a moving bait,a live shiner being excellent..all the times ive fished with bread, ive had other fish like bull gills & oscars hit it 100times faster then a bass.,last time i used bread, 3 bass kinda nibbled on the bread but didnt swallow it,now the oscars it was 1 right after the other... GLADES Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I caught a 5# bass while fishing for bream with bread balls in a Coral Springs canal as a teenager. A friend of mine also caught one using a wad of bubble gum once. You never know. Quote
