Super User F14A-B Posted January 12, 2014 Super User Posted January 12, 2014 So I was thrilled to buy this new several months ago and had not used it.. I mean I put line on and cast in yard testing what I could. Back in box until a couple days ago I mount it on my loomis flip stick tied a 3/4 oz tungston wt. and boom.... Felt the side plate (brake side access key side) move I was shocked... So I play around and it's just slightly loose when I grip.... Seems like a outta spec side plate well this sucks! So who else has had this problem? Remedy ? Man I hope I don't have to send it in! Is there someone who can tell me what they have done to fix this at home, if possible ? Thanks for any suggestions Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 12, 2014 Super User Posted January 12, 2014 I have several 51E's............none of them are loose. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted January 12, 2014 Super User Posted January 12, 2014 Sure you have the door on right and the spool in correctly? Quote

bass1980 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I know exactly what your talking about. I had a Chronarch 201e7 and my first time taking it out I felt that side plate play. I actually bought two CH201e7 and only one did that. I couldn't figure out what it was and was thinking of sending it in. In actual use every now and then you really notice it. Then after a while it gets in your head and your waiting for the side play. Unfortunately I cannot help you out on this issue. After a two more outings it went away. Then I forgot which reel was which and just never cared to look for it anymore and then I traded both 200 series reel. Good luck on your quest to fix it. Quote

Loop_Dad Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I had the same problem with Citica G. when I did the web search, I came across some old article of Citica D (?). If I remember correctly, the article mentioned something about this being common to Shimano's side cover design. I have two of them and they both have some play, but one is more. The direction of the play is when I push the cover towards the rod tip and back. However, I didn't notice this until only after two seasons. But I am not 100 % sure if I always had this problem or not. I posted a thread here asking about this, but no response was received. I cut a piece of packing tape in very thing strip. I attached the to the front edge of the cover. It is low tech fix, but it works for now. I have Curado G which is only few months old. It's got the same design as Citica G, but this one is tight. (so far at least) Quote
bass1980 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Mine doesn't move left right or up down. The play in mine was that it was able to rotate a hair in the same direction of opening and closing. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted January 13, 2014 Author Super User Posted January 13, 2014 Thanks for you're help mine is more up and down and front to back it's looking like a send in to shimano for a fix... It's my new flipping reel and it has got to have a effect on the spool and brakes.... Any body else? I was hoping to use in on the big o in 5 weeks.. Humm.. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 This should still be under warranty. Either the retailer or Shimano will surely repair/replace. I can't recommend a DIY fix without seeing it. Quote

I can't recommend a DIY fix without seeing it. I agree, but curiosity got me and I have to ask. Is the side plate lose w/proper tension (no laterial play) on the cast control cap? Warranty the sucker, take/send it back! Good Luck & Tight Lines On The Big O! Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 If it isn't under warranty for whatever reason, try buying a ch51e sideplate off either ebay or shimano's online ordering parts system. Cost is probably less than $10. Quote
