Siefer Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I just got some regular hooks and no clue who makes the best. So which ones should I be looking at? Also is there some kind of hook that decreases hang-ups. One of the ponds I fish at have lots of vegetation and I have lost 4 Senko's in the past 2 days. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted April 3, 2007 Super User Posted April 3, 2007 Don't know who makes the best hooks. There are quite a few really good ones. Gamakatsu, Owner and Sugoi are on the top of my list. As far as reducing hangups, are you skin-hooking your baits when fishing in vegetation? That will help some. If you're using Senko's, just resign yourself to the fact that you will go through a lot of them. No way around it. Cheers, GK Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I agree with Ghoti, you will go through alot of senkos There are alot of good quality hooks. Some of my favorits are X point, owner, gamie, mustad ultra point. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted April 3, 2007 Super User Posted April 3, 2007 Only four ? If you leave the hook exposed , this is going to happen often. Quote
Siefer Posted April 3, 2007 Author Posted April 3, 2007 Ok so don't hook my senko's all the way through? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 4, 2007 Super User Posted April 4, 2007 The term is "skin hook." Bring the hook through the bait and "pinch-up" the plastic to hide the point. This will reduce your hang-ups dramatically. Also, the hooks I reccomend (regardless of the brand) are 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hooks. I fish Gamakatsu and X-Point. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted April 4, 2007 Super User Posted April 4, 2007 I've always used Gamakatsu hooks, but I did pick up some VMC EWG's a while back. They seem pretty good, but I'll have a better opinion after I fish them this season. Falcon Quote
Super User T-rig Posted April 4, 2007 Super User Posted April 4, 2007 The owner rig'n hook is the best hook i have ever used. Quote
