I'm sure it has to do a lot with weather but I was wondering when do you guys usually start targeting bass in CT? Do you have any rules on when to start like certain water temps or something.

Thanks

Welcome to BR. If you want to find out more about Ct fishing - check out CTFisherman.com. If you know the right places, you can catch a bass from the banks pretty much any day of the year in CT (stripers in the winter months). If you're targeting largemouth - mid march to early April is the normal target time for the new season (if the New England weather cooperates). Check out the ct.gov DEEP website for the lakes open year round - otherwise you have to wait until the third Saturday in April. Join a club as a non-boater if you are interested in the next level of bass fishing. Just be prepared for total addiction after that.

I'm in central CT.  That's great that you have a boat.  No need to join a club just yet if you have a boat.  You can hit up Candlewood in March for bass - all the way up to March 31st.  Then the lake is closed to bass fishing for three weeks.  It reopens 3rd Saturday of April.

I was fishing in Saltonstall when you were about 10. I recognized the lake in the background of your Avatar.

Anyway send me a PM if you want to know where to start on the Lake after ice-out.

Man, I miss Saltonstall so much. I moved back to Rhode Island eight years ago. I used to fish it every day I could possibly get on the lake or walk the banks. Even at night. WOW!. There's some absolute giants in there. It's about 100 ft. deep on the West side

Another CT fisherman here.  Thanks for the CTFisherman.com recommendation.  I'll have to go through that.  CTfish talk is ok, but this site beats them hands down in responsiveness from users.
