Depends on conditions. There is an article in BASS magazine on what and when to use trailers. I can't say that they work better or worse than any other jig. Most jigs end up in the same 2 places. Snagged or minus a skirt in my garage.

x2 on the hippy jigs!

I always use a trailer; whether it has subtle or erratic/enticing characteristics depends on water temperature.

Also look at the profile of the jig (profile includes trailer). Make sure you are using the right size bait for the lake you are fishing. For instance, if I am fishing for numbers over quality, or high pressured situations, I will size down my jigs and vice versa.

I fish the Buckeye Lures Mop Jig with a lucky strike craw trailer for smallies on the local river. I dont catch a lot of numbers on this bait, but if im after a 3 lb plus smallie i throw this. I have caught a few walleyes, flatheads and largemouth on this bait also. The first time i used it i wasnt very confident due to its large profile, but all it took was one smallie to get me confidence.

x2 northstar hippy jigs are my favorite they are flat out awesome!!! i find myself using the alien head the most it stands up great and really gets that rubber skirt flaring, exposing the craw... buckeye are my second favorite

I echo the opinions already stated... Buckeye and Northstarbaits mop jigs are not only my goto baits, but also consistently catch my bigger bass.  You can't go wrong with either!!!

I agree Buckeye and North Star are my two favorite Mop Jigs, but if I had to pick one it would be North Star because of the realistic factor. When it is standing on the bottom, the skirt/hair are constantly moving, which of course helps the bass think its alive.

I use the Buckeye football mop in "dragging" situations with great success. I always use a trailer. For this jig I use the rage craw (the length works well with the long skirt) in watermelon red on most occasions.

GMAN Jigs are another great option. I had some 3/4 oz football

heads custom made with TroKar hooks and copper wire wrap. I

fish them with a Rage Tail Lobster for the trailer. This is a BIG

presentation!

So far, perfectly!

As far as hooks go, I am a huge fan of Gamakatsu, Owner, VMC

and XPoint. More recently, I have found Mustad to be a fine hook,

too. Take a look at Moaner hooks which are customized Mustad:
