So I bought my first baitcast setup yesterday at bps and love it!!!!! A little getting use to though. My buddy caught 8 bass to my 0 :( used same lure and the only thing I can think of is they can see my line

Could've been your presentation or maybe you weren't able to feel them the only time I would worry about line would be braid in clear water.

I'm trying to post a pic but not sure how. It's 30lb braid in a fluorescent green color

Is it powerpro super 8 slick? That stuff is pretty bright I darken it with a black sharpie.

Lol yep might be the line. I have never fished the bright colored stuff. So I can't say for sure. :D

But I have put my son beside me with a senko of all things and he still can't get a decent fish to take it. And he is doing every thing rite. I can take the rod toss it and land a fish, hand it back and nothing. Over and over again. I honestly don't no what it is. But it's not all presentation. Some of it just comes with time. I'm always telling my friends I could catch a five pounder out of a bucket of tap water. Lol

What kind of setup and line was your buddy using? Could it be that he was retrieving the lures at a different rate? Were you both fishing the exact same spots, or different sections of the shore?

I'm usually the one to catch more fish than him. Lol until my setup change. I've never tried the bright color line and I was curious . Same color fluke and in the same boat with me. He had darker and thinner braid line. I have nothing to blame but the line!!!!

Color it with a black or green sharpie or add a fluorocarbon leader

I bought the new revo stx paired with a tatula mh 6'10 rod. I thought about the whole sharpie thing. Probably what I'll try next so I don't waste $24 and throw that crap away

i use high vis braid and haven't seen any difference in catch rate to when i didn't.  It is probably the combination of a new set up and the lack of confidence in the bright braid.  Just get a sharpie, color the last 6 feet or so and go out and see what happens.

Did you get a higher gear ratio reel then you had? ( new 7:2:1 il bet!) Or was his lower?

That makes a ton of difference in retrieve speed and is key many times. For instance it's pretty hard to slow down your retrieve speed on a 6:2:1 reel when you should be using a 5:2:1. I'd wager it's impossible. You'll go back to cranking at a rate that feels nature sooner or later.

I've seen the difference in my catches over the years as the reels have gotten faster and faster. I've got to slow down some.

Very good point also because my other reel was a 5:2:1 compared to my new 7:1:1. Probably has a lot to do with it then because like you said I'm use to the rate of my previous reel. I've got to slow waaay down

it could have been the slight braid difference but more likely ur retrieve was 'off'.

stop what ur doing and watch what he is doing with the tip of his rod. sometimes just keeping tension on the line can spook them compared to the guy next to you leaving his line slack.

i use hi viz yellow braid with no issues.
