BOOMBABOOM Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Hey guys. I'm planning on fishing Holiday Park/Alligator Alley this Sunday. However, a cold front is expected to come through Saturday night. I'm worried the fish might have lockjaw, but I still would like to go anyways. I think I can be successful if I figure out the right things. Would it still be worth it to go? What lures and techniques should I use? Should I downsize lures? I was planning on fishing the finger canals on Alligator Alley for bedding fish first. Thanks anybody for your help!! Quote
Super User geo g Posted January 9, 2014 Super User Posted January 9, 2014 Fish whenever you get a chance. Down size and throw a 4" senko type bait, or zoom fluke. If it gets tough slow way down. The bigger fish caught recently, have shown NO signs of bedding on the Alley, at least the ones I've caught. Watermelon red, Okeechobee, and black are good colors in this area. Good luck! SnazzySenko Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Holliday Park used to be one of the best places to fish. But now the waterways are flooded. They reach as deep as 16'. I've been there about 5 times, although it's fun to go out and venture into the glades it's also stressful most of the time, for me at least. I average 3-4 fish in about 4-5 hours. It can be tough there, especially this time of year. But if you do still want to go I suggest dark colored jigs, frogs during the early morning (upto 10:00 a.m.), and watermelon red or junebug senkos it's what I use when I catch. I've tried everything and nothing seems to produce more than these. I Texas rig the senkos and sometimes use shakey heads too. This time of year reel in VERY SLOW for about a second or two, stop, twitch a little, wait about 5 seconds, repeat. With shakey heads casts can be very long. If you do go, PM me with how you did. I went there about a month ago and caught 2 in 4 hours. Very agitating with the knowledge of how it used to be. Also be careful as some canals are overgrown. When you leave the dock keep going straight until you reach a left turn, follow that and you will find an attaching canal that go to the right. Go there. Fish that. If you don't produce go back to the main canal and keep going and fish the main canal. Quote

Fish can be found in the flats but I went out there about 2 weeks ago and it was tough sledding so I hit the Miami canal. Caught a decent number of dinks on top water but nothing to write home about. Had no bites on the usual morning lures so we switched to wacky worms. We then got a few bites and the bass weren't even bigger than 1/2 a pound. So tiny. Then that front came over and shut whatever bite there was down. We picked the boat up and then went to Holiday Park. I know a kinda secret spot where the bass tend to school up. And boy were they. Hundreds of them. You could see them. But they weren't bigger than 1/2 a pound, any of them. We caught about 20 on topwater and then got sick of the little rats. We fished some marsh access points with wacky worms later with no bites to show. We left and were back at home by 12:30. Water was 16 feet deep in Alligator Alley. Water temp was 66-67 degrees. Looks like it'll be a couple months before it gets good. 1 Quote
AGamarra Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 There is a celebrity BASS fishing tournament at Holiday park January 31. It's $100/person up to 3 /boat and is open to local anglers. I would love to take part in this tournament not just because I love to Bass fish, but also because 100% of proceeds go to Boys and Girls Club of Broward. My only problem, and it's a biggy, is I do not own a boat. I am willing to share fuel/supplies etc. if anyone needs a 2nd or 3rd for their boat. Quote

I'm not from the area, just seems familar Alligator Alley is a canal system dug for road fill, along the side I 75, right through the heart of the Everglades. It is about 5 miles north of Holiday Park but it is all part of one huge drainage system. The whole system provides over 100 miles of fishable waters. The canal system is the only deep water throughout the river of grass. As the everglades drain, during the dry season, the canals become full of wild life excaping the low water levels. Sometimes you will catch hundreds of fish, see hundreds of gator, as well as snakes, big lizards, big otters, and other mammals along the edges. Definitely a unique eco-system. Quote
