BOOMBABOOM Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I'm posting this because I wish I read something like this a long time ago. I've been bass fishing in South Florida now for about 6 years. My favorite lures have always been a Zoom Superfluke in watermelon red, or a 5" blue wacky worm. Those are my lures. It's what I use, and I did well with them. I've been to the Everglades and caught over 100 fish in a day on these lures. I catch 3-4# fish every now and then. They work. I've used topwaters a couple times but I pretty much stick to those lures. My friend was telling me about how amazing these new Gambler lures are. I thought he was full of crap. I've even fished with him, beside him, and he didn't seem to be catching much more/bigger than I was with my wacky worm. He would just cast out and reel back. No twitching, no pausing. It was almost a topwater. It worked for him. He gave me a few lures. I threw them in my bag and kind of forgot about them. A trip after I was fishing with my friend. I was using a wacky worm, he was using a fluke, and we were fishing in a lake we both knew was very good but we had only caught a couple... My favorite lures were not working. I remembered the Gambler Big EZ. I tied it on, cast into the lily pads and started reeling back. It was like flipping a light switch on. Bass were exploding the water surface like snook to get to that lure. I couldn't believe it. In the past 3 trips now I've used only the Gambler Big EZ and have had tremendous success. Not only am I catching more fish, the fish are better quality. The big EZ is a big fish magnet. I caught 50+ fish in one day and the smallest fish was over 2 pounds. These are on residential lakes, fished by foot. This is unheard of. We nailed quite a few 4-6# fish as well. The rig: Gambler Big EZ (Copperfield, green, all white, dark blue) rigged with a 1/8 or 3/8 oz weighted 6/0 or 7/0 worm hook with the twist-keeper. Rig it weedless, cast into cover, reel back just below the surface like a topwater so it makes a little v wake. Unbelievable. I'm posting this because if you haven't tried these lures you need to. I can't wait to go to the Everglades this weekend and try these lures out! 3 Quote
Lewi Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I'll second this as they were working wonders for me this summer as trailers on a swim jig...I had the garlic ones. Only issue that I had was that they were one and done which isn't a bad thing but they didn't hold up too well. Needless to say i'll give them a whirl again. Nice fish BTW!!! -Lewi Quote
gar-tracker Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Back before they first came out a guy was waxing everyone up north, I was BSing with him and he held up a Big EZ real quick and put it away. I went back to the truck and told my partner that he showed me some gigantic plastic fish with a fat body. We still laugh about that.. 1 Quote

The glades is not producing big fish yet, unless you have a secret spot out in the flats, like some guys do. Quote
Super User geo g Posted January 9, 2014 Super User Posted January 9, 2014 Dolphin Hunter, I agree with you, although I like the Gambler E-Z Swimmer a little better. It is a little smaller, but has the same action. I also love the old Gambler Cane Toads, compact body, with great leg action and sound. Gambler puts out some good stuff! Good luck. Quote
Super User MCS Posted January 9, 2014 Super User Posted January 9, 2014 I like gamblers stuff, haven't tried the EZ yet though. Just isn't really my style of fishing. I was talking to Lou about picking some up. But their ribbon tails and other products are just as good too! Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted January 9, 2014 Super User Posted January 9, 2014 Captain Shane Procell caught his new PB double digit on one this last year. Quote
BOOMBABOOM Posted January 9, 2014 Author Posted January 9, 2014 I've never used the ribbon tails or the creature baits. I'll have to give them a try as well. I believe there was just a tournament in Lake Okeechobee and the winning boats were using a Gambler Big EZ and a Crawdaddy. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted January 9, 2014 Super User Posted January 9, 2014 Man those are some nice fish! I have a pack of the big EZ but never really fished em. Will definitely try them now and I'll rig then the way you did hope I have similar results Nice fish Quote
Shane Procell Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Captain Shane Procell caught his new PB double digit on one this last year. The Big EZ definately attracts big fish. I like it because it is versitile...up top or swimming. Quote

Super User MCS Posted January 9, 2014 Super User Posted January 9, 2014 I haven't been able to find them at bps but I'll definitely check online thanks MCS Yeah the one in Orlando has limited styles of what they stock, EZ otter and flappin shad are all I seen. Gambler has their own site look there to see all the colors and baits. their swim jigs are nice too. or the typical TW type sites carry the popular items. Quote
BOOMBABOOM Posted January 9, 2014 Author Posted January 9, 2014 I went to order a bunch of lures online off the Gambler website. They wanted to charge $12 shipping as the cheapest option! ***.com was out of stock and so was another website. BPS has nothing online. I found a website called FishFreakOnline. Cheap prices, 10% off and free shipping! My package should be arriving today. Quote

mrjjangles Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I believe there was just a tournament in Lake Okeechobee and the winning boats were using a Gambler Big EZ and a Crawdaddy. The winning boater wasn't doing much until 11am when he scaled down in size because of the cold front that rolled in Friday. He switched from Crawdaddys to BB Crickets and was flipping them to where the grass was pushed up to dead grass. The big girls were underneath it all because that dead stuff holds heat. He won the check with the BB Cricket, while the winning coangler used Big EZs and EZ Swimmers equally. 1 Quote
