Broward County Bass Fishing

So, I have fished for a while in the Broward County Area and have come up with a lot of bass. However, recently I have gotten more into bass fishing and have caught many small bass this year including bass as small as half a pound. I typically use a baby bass fluke by zoom, a horny toad by zoom, or some natural color senkos. Are there any good ponds or parks I should be fishing in the Broward County Area or am I not using the right bait ? I'd appreciate any advice.

I too am from Broward County and the bass fishing can be very tough. It seems as if all the good lakes are west of 441 and the more north (into Boca/Boynton) you go the better. Canals suck. Big lakes suck.

Those are good lures. My go-to lures are a zoom superfluke in watermelon red and a dark blue Gary Yamamato senko. Also a Gambler big EZ in pretty much any natural color rigged with a 1/8 oz big hook reeled on top can be deadly.

Look for any lake with structure. If there's no lily pads, underwater grass, green goop or sawgrass on the shoreline, it's probably not worth fishing. You can see all these types of structure on Google Earth or Google maps.

Residential lakes always seem to do better. It also seems like the bite has been better after 2PM versus a morning bite.

The grass is always greener elsewhere, personally I think Weston is a dynamite area to fish.  I happen to know an excellent fisherman from Coral Springs, he comes up to fish Delray and I sometimes go to Coral Springs, go figure.  I get around to fish a lot of places, there is no place like home.  I do as well in and around Delray as anyplace, and my home base is the Boynton inlet, I just happen to click better there than even Hobe Sound.  That said for me it's challenge, catching different species in different places, that's why I put on a lot of miles.

Based on your forum name, if you live in Weston, you are living in one the best bass fishing areas in Broward imho. You just have to explore it a little more. I drive 30 min just to fish in your neck of the woods because of the fishery you have.

Those canals are loaded with 6 to 7, 8 pounders, the growing period gets a little to fast down south for the fish to reach double digits, while they're out there ts very hard to come by south of West Palm.

 

 

When I drug the canals and things got slow I would put it at Browns Farm just past WPB county line on 27 to the right going north, I would fish that canal that parallels US 27, it runs all the way up to South Bay. Theres a make shift dirt ramp just off the bridge. Small boats only, and for the love of God dont eat any of those fish.

I did some fishing near Vista View Park on Orange drive canal with no luck yesterday.

Up in Delray I'd be looking for a different area to fish.  The day after the rains the canals were very high, now all the floodgates are open and yesterday the water has receded maybe 8' from each bank.  The ugliest coffee colored water I have ever seen, what little water is there the current is exceptionally fast, didn't get a strike.  The ponds on the other hand have exceeding their banks and the water is crystal clear, I did have a few fish there.

Looks like we have the making of a nice group in Weston. This guy in my picture and 3 others just like him were caught off the shore in my development (Savanna) in Weston. I've had no luck in the Meadows, although I only fished along the South end. Weston Road has a 3-4 lakes between Indian Trace and Royal Palm where I have had success with top water frogs, Zoom Super Flukes (Watermelon) and Zoom lizards. I try to use the smallest bullet weight 1/32 oz or smaller, just to get it to bounce/dive head 1st. Are any of you interested in the Channing Crowder Bass tournament at Holiday Park Friday the 31st?

There are good places to fish all throughout Broward County.  Look for places with vegetation and spawning flats.  Places without will hold some fish but not the numbers that are available in these prime sports.  The problem is home owner prefer sterile banks void of even a single pad or clump of grass.  Good spots have an entire eco-system with frogs, snails, snakes, and turtles.  This will assure a good sound food source.   Without the weeds it all breaks down.

AGamarra I live in savannah as well I caught my personal best (which you can see in my pic) at the lake right in front of the community pool. I lost a big one yesterday probably 6 pounder across the street. Maybe we'll see each other someday.

Geo g, smacked the nail on it's head.  In my community I used to out every day and catch quality bass, no more.  Our HOA goes spray crazy now and Palm Beach County forces us to buy reclaimed water that they pump in.  Once this program started a few years ago it killed the fishing here.

I have a beautiful canal behind my home, fishing was very good.  LWDD comes in and dredges to increase water flow, the fish disappear.  Fish are back and people have access on other side and throw cast nets, fishing has become tough, going to change as there is a community being built so there won't be any road access.
