BigAL Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Just got my first boat and I have to park it at storage facility and don't have access to electric outlet to charge batteries I was looking at those On-Board Marine Battery Charger like this onehttp://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-XPS-Intelligent-Technology-Series-OnBoard-Marine-Battery-Charger-XPS-iT-10/10/product/10224686/but not familiar with how it works, charge it at home than just hook it up while I'am fishing?Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Super User slonezp Posted January 9, 2014 Super User Posted January 9, 2014 No, I think your misunderstanding it. That charger mounts permanently to the boat and the batteries. You plug the charger into an extension cord. You have a couple options. Minn Kota makes a charger that will charge the trolling motor batteries off the boats alternator while you're running from spot to spot http://store.minnkotamotors.com/products/690312/MK_3_DC_%283_bank%29 You can always remove the batteries which is a PITA. I keep my boat in storage as well. I pic it up the night before I go out and plug it in over night. I also believe someone makes an inverter kit so you could plug an onboard charger into a receptacle on the tow vehicle. To get the most out of the batteries, they need to be charged fully after each use, and topped off before the next use. 2 Quote

Super User Jig Man Posted January 9, 2014 Super User Posted January 9, 2014 Look up Stay in Charge. It will charge your batteries while you are motoring during the day and top them off on the way to and from the storage shed using your tow vehicle charging system. 1 Quote
