joetomlee Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I went sledding for the first time in years, TWICE! It was fun, but unrelated to fishing. 1 Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted January 8, 2014 Super User Posted January 8, 2014 I can think of only two good things about this, or any other winter. 1. I save about a hundred dollars per week on gasoline by not hauling the boat around to the various fishing holes. Fuel for the boat is minimal by comparison. 2. I get stuff done around the house which keeps my bride happy, and more importantly quiet during the fishing season. 1 Quote

Super User Oregon Native Posted January 8, 2014 Super User Posted January 8, 2014 Sorry bout this but I like the fact there are less anglers on the water by a long shot and I find the fishing great for the most part. Just sayin! Quote

Super User geo g Posted January 8, 2014 Super User Posted January 8, 2014 EVERYTHING! Everything is better! In South Florida the relentless heat drops, the humidity drops, rains less, the water temps drop, the water levels drop, fish become concentrated is smaller areas, fish spawn, 200 fish days are a real possibility. I live for winter / spring! Quote
ColdSVT Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I was having a good time on my snowmobile...until I broke a ski the other day. Almost wrecked lol Quote

FrogFreak Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 To be serious, the winter reminds me of how precious every moment I get to spend on the beautiful Minnesota lakes truly is. I vow to stop and smell the roses this summer. When I step into my boat and start up the Merc and run across the lake to throw some early morning poppers on my favorite lake point and see the LMB explode or when I pitch a frog into the lilies just to watch it disappear with a gulp from below, I will stop and thank the lord above for such a privilege. 6 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 11, 2014 Super User Posted January 11, 2014 IMHO, our fishing, as a whole, is much better up here because of the winter. We might not have as big of fish as Texas, Florida, etc.....but the numbers of 3-5lb fish is excellant. Plus we have smallmouth, and (while most bass guys hate them)....pike. I like them, except when they steal lures or bite my fingers off. Hook up with a big pike on bass gear and your in for a thrill, and there has been many a day when the bassin' was slow that the pike kept it fun and interesting. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 12, 2014 Super User Posted January 12, 2014 I like the winter and i like the cold but cold is all relative My favorite thing is i go trout fishing more and it reminds me how much i like fly fishing even though i don't do it as much for largemouth as i should. Yes, and if I'm not mistaken the old boy retired after that event, only to throw his hat back in the ring. This also takes us back to January 17, 2001 on Florida's West Tohopekaliga (affectionately known as 'Lake Toho"). Dean Rojas broke and still holds the all-time B.A.S.S one-day stringer record: 45-lb 2-oz The frogmaster also set the 4-day stringer record on Toho weighing 108-lb 12-oz (Bested by Elias on Falcon) Roger Quote
