SneakySnook Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Looking for a fish finder for my kayak but not sure what to get. What kind of fishfinder do you have on your kayak? I'm looking at humminbird 571 HD but wanted to know if you guys had a review on this one or something else you guys use. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 You might want to ask the mods to move this to the electronics thread Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I had a PiranhaMAX on my kayak. Worked good. Duct Seal compound for the transducer and put it inside my SOT Quote

I've got an inexpensive Garmin unit, nothing special, cost me maybe $75 on sale. Now I do wish I had a better unit that gave me down scan imaging or such. I built a transducer arm that attaches to my gunnel, swings over into the water. The entire system works great, is removable, but like I said, I'd pick a better unit to see the bottom better should the future hold some more cash for me Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 You can put pretty much whatever you want on a kayak. I have seen everything from the pirahna max series, which i currentlyh have, up to the high dollar side imaging units. I would look at your budget, what features you want and buy accordingly. Quote
MikeinFresno Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 what yak do you have? Some have premade mounts and fit certain models better than others. OK yaks work with Humminbird FF for instance. I have a OK T13, but I used the $189 Lowrance Mark4 that is black n white but it has amazing resolution. I can see the fish on the bottom and see my jigs on the way down and bouncing...tell us more.
