Fat Willy Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I have this same question. I have been living in the midwest for 5 years now and spend my winters wishing I could catch some bass. I have several friends that bug me to go ice fishing with them but I really have to interest in catching anything other than bass. I know it can be unavoidable but you get the idea. Help us out!!! Avaitor63 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I would use a Strike King Hack Attack Jig. Try sexy craw, smokey shad 3/8 or 1/2. I've caught alot of bass on these lures. Good Luck keep warm. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 ice spoons or live bait- drill holes where the bass are. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted January 8, 2014 Super User Posted January 8, 2014 This is just one man's opinion but if you are willing to sort out the crappie and bluegill along the way, an ice fishing jig (such as a hex fly or swedish pimple) tipped with a wax worm (or two) will attract and catch many bass. While none were particularly large, I caught 4 bass just the other day. I have, however, caught bass and catfish over 3 lbs with wax worms. A friend of mine uses minnows regulary which work well, too, but I don't like having to locate them or keep them alive (There aren't many live bait shops in Central Illinois). Quote
msk Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Tip ups and golden roaches! We catch bass all the time thru the ice! Quote
ostate_hayes Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 I live in Oklahoma so of course I don't get a chance to ice fish for bass but I've seen videos where people would get lipless crankbaits and just drop em and lift them up and keep dong that and they were catchin em http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WooRXs6kgWM Watch that video and skip to 1:50 and he is using it to ice fish Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 19, 2014 Super User Posted January 19, 2014 Oh man, I just can´t let this one get away so here it goes ..... In my neck of the woods "ICE FISHING" means you try to fish the last ice cubes out of the cooler at the end of the day after being under the blazing sun and exposed to the scorching heat when you´re out of beverages. More "ice fishing" questions ? Oh boy, there ain´t nuthin´ better than the deep south. 1 Quote
