TC235 <*))))>< Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 To start off this isn't a serious topic as i just wanted to hear what others have to say. so please don't shoot me down In a crazy world if you set up a pond inside the size of a stadium or smaller would/could it be a efficient, fun way to fish?? Already knowing the fish would act completely different in a indoor environment like aquariums, but would it work? Could you mimic a real world environment for the fish?? and be catching the same ways we do normally?? Quote
CDMeyer Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 If I ever had a couple million dollars laying around I would defiantly do that. See if you could make it as real as possible, the only problem would be emissions from the boat. You also would have to have a Clear or glass celling to allow light to get in. But if ever do this I will call you up and we will hammer em' together Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 That'd be cool for a practice facility! 2 Quote
Tony L. Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 If you google it, these places actually exist. I dont suppose i could convince you to open one? As cold as it has been here, that would be such an awesome option. Spring is just too far away. 1 Quote
Trailer Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 As far as emissions go, ask the Tulsa, OK fairgrounds how they handle indoor emissions for the Chili Bowl. It can be done! 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 Ever heard of a trout in a swimming pool? They're at just about every fishing show, and they do it at some of the public pools as fund raisers before they open for the season. Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Yes! I wish I could through some bass in an indoor size Olympic size swimming pool!!!!!! Proper elements and chemical stuff though of course. :-) Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 I think that would be pretty cool. It would be like the 6 Flags for fishermen. Obviously this isn't real but that'd be cool if they had it like an above ground pool set up with glass around it. The fishermen would fish on top around "the bank" and from the floor others could see the fish and structure. That'd be pretty cool to be able to see how the fish stalk and attack their prey from a first person stand point Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 There is an indoor golf range nearby which uses an inflatable dome. I thought about this idea for practice fishing. Each station would be for different techniques. The fish would need to behave (be at each station) to make this work. Lol Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 Interesting concepts already taking place in South Korea. No boat sized ponds though. http://rokdrop.com/2009/05/28/new-york-times-profiles-koreas-urban-fishing/ http://www.anglersnotebook.com/2011/01/11/indoor-fishing-in-seoul-south-korea/ Quote

I learned the craft from a super-cool old Korean gentleman, Mr. Kim, a number of years ago. Is a super fun way to catch fish. While I don't fish this way much anymore, I've still got about 8 or 10 poles ranging from 10' to 20' in length. Quote
SpinnerbaitSlinger Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I vote getting in good with Bill Dance or KVD and get into BPS after hours for some indoor fishing 2 Quote
TC235 <*))))>< Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 Thanks for the responses everyone.. I already knew before asking this question that the idea can work.. It's just how well? Would it be the same as going to a local pond after adding all the elements of a real pond?... Think about all the things that dictates how the fish act? When it comes to weather, time of year, moon phases etc? It's hard to think the fish would relate to cover or structure like they do normally My guess is it would defiantly work.. I just don't believe it would be the same or even remotely like it? Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 8, 2014 Super User Posted January 8, 2014 Would love to do it. Would add a crawfish pond, too. When I win the big lottery I will certainly give it a try. Thanks for giving us the idea. Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 8, 2014 Super User Posted January 8, 2014 And as a follow up... my first wife and I raised macaws and cockatiels. We built a large shed with heating, air conditioning, temperature monitors, temperature and lighting timers so that the birds would think it was different times of the year and start laying eggs. By controlling the internal building light and temperature we would simulate the seasons of the year. You could do the same by controlling the light and water temperatures in the indoor pond. You could add current, too, to come on and go off as you wish. Sounds like a great idea. Quote
CDMeyer Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Yeah I have herd and seen of those trout ponds..... but that is literally a rectangle about 20ft long and 10ft wide that just is swarming with trout. If it was to be realistic it would have to have structure and actually bottom besides a pool limning, if that could be done and have stumps and pads and the whole nine yards..... COUNT ME IN, THE PERFECT ANSWEAR FO WISCONSIN WINTERS Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted January 9, 2014 Super User Posted January 9, 2014 The University here has an olympic size indoor pool. I think it would be cool if they could filter out (or not add) chlorine and then stock bass, bluegill, and various other baitfish during the winter months and then open it up to us poor, lost souls. I know I'd use the pool then. Quote
basscatcher8 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Definitely would have to be electric only and john boat lake. Quote

EDIT TO ADD: i think heres a pic, it has been a long time since i was there: http://ts1.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.4590290492394268&pid=15.1 Quote

That's where I drew the idea from I was just thinking more along the lines of like 3 huge combined Olympic style pools something massive lol Quote

TC235 <*))))>< Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 Good suggestions and such...Liking the feedback.. A butt ton of money and a group of us and we'd make the BEST indoor pond. Quote
BassnChris Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I think I'm gonna pitch this idea to Jerry Jones........I'm sure he would be interested in something he could use to generate off season revenue in his little stadium! :laugh5: Quote
Insanity Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Toss some blue gill in for the kids and woman that don't bass fish and I bet it could be a fun family environment. Might turn a few dollars. For bass fishermen only. Um. I don't no. Unless unlike bass pro shop you sell baits and let them test there. Whoa big bucks maybe. As long as you build it as close to nature as possible it wouldn't cost as much to build and run. A couple of million tops. Lol Look up Pond Boss web site. If it's still up and running. That will give you an idea of what it takes to run a good pond. Humm, Soil gravel and plants should be the first line of water filtration. Pumps and filters second to keep the water clear and add current. Natural light threw ceiling panels like a green house and only Add lighting enough to keep plants happy in winter. Temp control. Low to slow down the fishing, higher to start a feeding frenzy. Would be cool to dig a pit in one spot, concrete and large window. To watch what's going on under water. Yea it's do able. I think the fish would act normal but do to the activity going on in general they would be pretty tight lipped. Would be nice to find a way to change out fish every few days to another holding pond to give them a rest period. And put fresh ones in. Maybe for months or permanently every so often. Quote

I'm with you guys and I think Pond Boss should manage it for us! Up here in the frigid north, I'd love the opportunity to throw some top waters in January. We could make it a Bass Resource testing facility and we could sell advertising space on the dome! Glenn are you listening???? Quote
