thaddeusdowning Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I will have 2 seperate batteries in my boat one for starting/running my outboard and one for my trolling motor. I will be running a 45lb thrust minn kota edge and my outboard is just a 30hp. What battery classes of you found that works best for voltage and number of CCA's? Looking to spend around $100 per battery. Quote
tnriverluver Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Walmart group 29 runs my MK45 Edge all day non stop trolling crankbaits for crappie on speeds 3-5 depending on the wind. Never even seems to be close to running down and it is 4-5 Y/O now. I have 3 group 29's in my different boats and a group 27 in my camper. I am very happy with all of them especially for the price and ease of warranty should I need it. Never had one go bad yet and the oldest is 6 y/o. I always charge them immediately when I get home. I use a single group 29 to run my 1542 tracker with 20hp 4 stroke merc and 40lb MK. plus 3 Lowrance units. Works without issue also. Mine are the Everstart brand. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 What you should have said, what's the best under $100. That limits it to only about one battery, and that's Walmart's. You might find some cheap import for less but as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. Quote
Chris186 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I have always had good luck with Diehards, which cost just a shade over $100. I have had other brands that failed after 2 years, but every Diehard I have had lasted at least 5 years, if not longer. 1 Quote
RyneB Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I currently run 4 Diehards. I haven't had any issue with them whatsoever. Quote
jerzeeD Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I just picked up a new group 29 Interstate for 120. My old one only last for 4 seasons.. But I will admit that I neglected to do proper care and charging a good amount. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted January 11, 2014 Super User Posted January 11, 2014 You should be able to run your outboard with a 24 series battery with 600 CCAs or there abouts. As for the trolling motor, 12 V trolling motors pull more amps than 24 or 36 V so you need to concern yourself with reserve capacity (sometimes called reserve amps). Get as close to 200 reserve capacity as you can find in your price range. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 11, 2014 Super User Posted January 11, 2014 I like the Wal-mart everstarts, and the Napa store branded batteris. Have had good luck with both. Napa has the best warranty/replacement policy of any brand I have used. Some people like them, but i have had terrible luck with Interstates. I take care of my batts............charge after every trip, keep the water topped off, terminals clean, etc....and I never had an interstate last more than 1 season, cranking or DC. I had an Everstart cranker go for 5 years, and I only replaced out out of nervousness, and I am on the original set of Napa TM batts I bought since I decided to not go with Interstate.....4 years and (so far) no loss of power. basshead1 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I also have the Walmart 29 size and it gets the job done. I have a 30lb motor and can run all day without even putting a dent in it. I covered 8 miles one day and it was only down to 72%. That is the lowest I have had it. Quote
hawghunters Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Wallmart batteries haven't failed me and you can return them if they do within 2 years. Quote
carlm01 Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Hi Same question I need to get a battery for my seaeagle 285 I'm using a MK 40lb TM I wanted an AGM that wasn't too heavy but have been thinking about the DieHard Platinum grp 34M although it weighs in at 53lbs , I would have been happier with something lighter ... Any suggestions ? Quote
Brian Needham Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 the walmart batteries are good, but I have not used them......they are however relabled Interstates, which I have used and I really liked them. I compared all the RC, weight, cost, size and the Interstates were the best bang for the buck($125), so the walmarts stands to be just as good and will be around $20-$30 cheaper. that said, I am running odyssey batteries now cause that what was in my boat when I bought it. 65panhed Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Delco voyagers for me. I have used em for years and they last a long long time . Quote

BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted January 17, 2014 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted January 17, 2014 I have two boats and 7 Walmart Everstart group 29 batteries. Money is not a concern for me in batteries and I still choose Wal-mart. I have only had one problem. I was on vacation, in BFE Georgia, on Sunday when I lost a battery. Went to Walmart Sunday night and they swapped it out no questions asked. Try doing that with any other brand. 1 Quote
carlm01 Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Has anyone ever heard of or used VMAX ? Quote
Pa Angler Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 If you can afford it I would go with AGM batteries Sears has a good series of them but also you would need a charger that's AGM compliant I have four AGM batteries on my boat one cranking and three for the 36v trolling motor I have a 4 bank 4 x 15amp Dual Pro I called Dual Pro to ask about AGM's and I was told the charger was good to go. No water to add, has a longer life and doesn't have the corrosion problems that wet cells have. Go with the largest size you can fit. Tight Lines Pa Angler Quote
