Wonderwood Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I am from Pinellas County and I only bank fish. I am looking for some small ponds that have been fished that provide some good bass fishing Quote
Rovingmutt Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 good luck, i never found good fishing in pinellas, i travel on weekends to lakeland to fish Quote
Wonderwood Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 Thanks. I've had some luck in Freedom Lake Park but not a whole bunch. There are some parks in Largo that have some decent looking bank access on google maps. Quote

I never fished it when I lived there but there are a couple ponds and canals then the huge lake. We used to walk the trails all the time tho. Gators and otters so must be bass. I assume u can't fish from the board walk but the pond adjacent to the parking and walk the canal??? Quote
Super User MCS Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 After thinking there is also crescent lake on 22nd ave but that is obvious. One that might be good is the park on 13 ave n right by 275. Google earth it. Been there a couple times the had up signs about fish and the lake. Worth a shot, you can walk the entire thing and it is deep Quote
Super User MCS Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 While I am panning around recalling the area look at intx of 43rd st and 22 ave couple ponds there that are connected by a box culvert. Looks like access from a few sides without houses. Street parking. Quote
Super User MCS Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 Lake Seminole parks has like 4 ponds on it you might wanna try that too Quote
Super User MCS Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 How bout walsingham reseviour? Either of u fish that, has a park and ramp. Quote
Rovingmutt Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 there is a park in largo, i think on 8th ave?, can't remember the name, i have seen 2 guys pull nice fish out of there, north of east bay drive, west of 113th st taylor park, in largo Quote

Wonderwood Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 MCS, thanks, those all seem like nice spots. The one in St Pete looks like it's called Booker Creek Park. Walkingham looks like it has limited bank access, I asked a friend who said he catches some decent bass on his boat there. I have fished Taylor park to no avail but have heard of fish being caught there. Quote

Wonderwood Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 Depends when I am fishing. Heddon Spook or horny toad for top, though I have been using a buzz a lil bit more. I also use a bunch of swimbaits and super flukes. Free lined finesse or senko when the going gets slow. I have tried weighted curly tailed worms but I dont find much success with them, although I know they are extremely effective. Quote

Yeah I didn't have much luck at first with ribbon tails but then I read a little and tried harder now they are a staple....also when the going gets slower or in the summer try smaller stuff like a centipede or trick worm. Brushhogs and craws texas rigged are a good change of pace too. And you cannot forget a lizard. Sometimes it helps to do the opposite of what guys are throwing and not catching and to do the same thing if they are catching. LOL Quote
Wonderwood Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 Yes that is true. I always try to throw things at fish they might not have ever seen before. How do you fish the worms, centipede and trick worms and even lizards? I basically always fish them texas rigged. Quote

Trick worms either Texas rigged or weightless Weightless can be on top with more of a jerk retrieve or slow roll it....centipede I do Texas with a super light weight or split shot/mojo rig or wacky rigged. And the lizard always Texas rigged for me. Quote
Wonderwood Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 Alright so I am fishing em right, just gotta stick with it. Quote

Then I would look around on articles/youtube or in the lure section of this site on different ways to work them(meaning retrieve ie hops, sweeps dragging etc.) See if you pick up any new ideas you haven't tried yet. And remember if you think your going slow and don't get bit...slow down even more! Something I forget all the time and pay with the ol skunker. Quote
Wonderwood Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 I fished a pond on the into of 22nd and 43rd, caught one male on a jerkbait. Then fished a pond in the Brighton Bay neighborhood, caught six bass, two over three pounds and the rest from one to two pounds. 1 Quote

Also if you look a few streets to the west and north of the 22/43 spot there is lake leslee(right off lake leslee drive coincidentally) Quote
