Super User Nitrofreak Posted January 6, 2014 Super User Posted January 6, 2014 I blame Al Gore and all the tree hugger hippies over corrected for this mythical global warming HA !!! Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted January 6, 2014 Super User Posted January 6, 2014 Y'all can rub in all y'all want, I'm gonna whine all I can. This weekend I'm gonna be on the Big Pond sticking Hawgs! Where y'all gonna be? Dunno. Maybe I'll start a fire, and listen to the logs crackling. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted January 6, 2014 Super User Posted January 6, 2014 Close the north gate! It's 26 degrees with a wind chill of 17! Aint funny anymore!!! 17's t-shirt weather. It's -9 here Quote
Super User Darren. Posted January 6, 2014 Super User Posted January 6, 2014 Started the morning at 64º here on the Virginia Peninsula... Already down to 57º. Freezing... LOL. Just kidding. We're supposed to drop all day down to around 14º tonight not including wind chill, which is predicted to drop us into the -5 range. I thought I left this nonsense when I left the Rochester, NY area. Sigh..... Ah well, on the bright side, it'll only last for a couple days here. We're steadily dropping, down to 46 now. Dreading the teens and single and negative digits that'll be here tonight. Close the gates!! Quote
aceman387 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Yet there is a warmth in my heart that the Packers lost Its bitter cold outside with sub zero temps and negative wind chills and this seems to make the rotten weather conditions seem so much more tolerable. 1 Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted January 6, 2014 Super User Posted January 6, 2014 It was -21 this morning /w -52 windchill in northeast IA.....we have a HIGH today of -13. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted January 6, 2014 Super User Posted January 6, 2014 My next relocation will be for the speedweeks at Daytona Beach. Yes, the cold is coming in tomorrow or the day after, but it's not going to be the bitter cold we had a few days ago. The long range forcast shows a warming trend for the weekend with highs back in the 40s. When you pee ice cubes you know it's cold. I went to try that and its so cold as soon as I unzipped little guy was like a turtle retracting into its shell. 3 Quote
aceman387 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 You know its bitter outside when you go to take a shower in the morning and hail comes out. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted January 6, 2014 Super User Posted January 6, 2014 I hate to rub it in, but it's a balmy 50 degrees and raining here in SE Mass. That foot or so of snow we got a few days ago is history. Yesterday, temps were in the high 40s. To tell the truth, I'm relishing rubbing it in. We don't get the opportunity that often, so I'm not letting it go to waste. Freeze baby, freeze. You know, I checked the weather yesterday and couldn't believe that we were supposed to get into the 50's, 54* the last I looked when I was in Boston today. Then I saw the rest of the country and noticed all theses sub-zero temps in the middle of the country and extending all the way down into Texas. Hokie smokes, I couldn't believe it! What did they call it...a polar vortex? What the he11 is that? Quote

What did they call it...a polar vortex? What the he11 is that? I think it's what we used to know as "The Montreal Express", but was changed to "The Alberta Clipper". It's when the jet stream swoops south from western Canada toward or to the Gulf of Mexico, then swings easterly then back to the north, the entire system gradually moving east. The past two days the leading (eastern) edge of the system brought warm air from Florida north along the coast. When that edge pushes past us, we'll have the cold air to deal with that is behind the leading edge. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 7, 2014 Super User Posted January 7, 2014 One thing I don't miss is working outdoors in sub zero weather when I lived in Michigan, but that was just part of being in business, you do what you gotta do. Bit nippy in Fla, 41 with 26 mph winds at sunrise, be the first time eons that I won't head out to the ocean to fish. Pity, have the outgoing tide and I caught 2 snook yesterday............maybe I'll go, lol. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted January 9, 2014 Super User Posted January 9, 2014 We're just taking out the flannel sheets. And feeding the woodstove. It's nice and cozy watching the colored pine cones burning in the fireplace while watching the latest movies on cable. Some fresh beverages, some popcorn with family and friends surely makes a nice evening when it's chilly outside. We do movie nights, a game night(Scrabble/boggle). Plus a great home cooked super, or order pizza, or Chinese, it's a meal then game or show time. No chance of cabin fever hitting here. Quote
