dakotawilson17 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Witch bug style baits are best strike king river bugs or yum woolly bugs Quote
Super User Teal Posted January 5, 2014 Super User Posted January 5, 2014 Between the two choices given, ill go with the 4.5 wooly bug. I've used both and dont really have any complaints That being said, I feel that there are better beaver baits out there 1 Quote
doyle8218 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver gets my vote - plus they make a small one and a wide one. 1 Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted January 6, 2014 Super User Posted January 6, 2014 Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver gets my vote - plus they make a small one and a wide one. Another vote for R.I.. They flat out catch bass - either species. However, I suspect most are on par with these plastics, if similarly shaped. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 6, 2014 Super User Posted January 6, 2014 I have the up most confidence in the R.I. beavers, and thats my brand of choice.............but when I have been out, I have caught plenty on the Yum, Strike King, and other assorted brands. They all work, pick one YOU LIKE and be done with it. Quote
Crankinstein Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I really like the Strike King KVD Rodent. It has a ton of coffee scent on it and the fish seem to hang on to it forever. I'm a lot better with hard baits personally so I'm not as good at getting those quick hook sets, having an extra second or two really made a difference for me. I also Like the RI beaver and the missle baits D bomb as well. Quote
BenB54 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 My top producers are RI 4.20's and missile baits d bombs. Quote
basshole8190 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I am partial to the kinky beaver more than sweet beaver the extra tentacles have a lot of extra action 1 Quote
Jon G Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I like D Bombs, Sweet beavers, and the netbait b bug Quote
JKarbo214 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I prefer the Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver as well. Quote
Insanity Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Thanks a lot guys. That's about the hundredth time I've seen sweet beavers mentioned so I had to go look. Hum I can use it on my jigs or by Itself. I like creature baits. I'm sold. Gotta add some to my wish list. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted January 6, 2014 Super User Posted January 6, 2014 My top 3 would be the SK rodent both the full and baby sized, RI sweet beaver, and the MB D-bomb. The d-bomb is the most durable of the three while the SK rodent is the least durable. They are great Texas rigged and used for jig trailers when you want less action but to add a bit more bulk to create a larger profile. Also don't rule out the SK rodent rigged weightless for shallow rocks. It is dense enough to do so effectively. I have 3 good sized totes with just these 3 types of beaver style baits in them. Probably around 60 packs. Easily some of my most productive baits. Quote
Super User geo g Posted January 6, 2014 Super User Posted January 6, 2014 The sweet beaver is also my choice. Ill throw it with a #2 gama ewg hook and 1/32 weight. I know allot of guys flip with this bait but they are also good casting in the heavy slop and worked over the top. Its a sweet little bait. Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I like D Bombs, Sweet beavers, and the netbait b bug x2, these are my three favorites as well. I'm liking the D-Bomb best currently. Quote
mjseverson24 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I personally use the SK Rodent, the Yum woolie bully, and the havoc pit boss... all are good baits Mitch Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted January 6, 2014 Global Moderator Posted January 6, 2014 The Sweet Beaver is the only plastic I use now for punching mats. Mike Quote
Bigbarge50 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Oh those two originally mention..... the Yum Like most I am a RI beaver guy..... I never liked beavers till I used them. The kinky beaver in california 420 was killer for me last year Quote
Grantman83 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Gonna have to go with the Berkely Havoc Pit Boss as my go to for sure. I like the strike king rodent jr for a smaller profile option. The pit boss is my go to bait for trigs, jig trailers and almost anything else. Quote
CDMeyer Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Without a doubt I would say Yum Wooly Bug. That being said I think even they do not hold a candle to the Berkley Havoc Skeet Reese Pit Boss..... This bad boy T-Rigged is LETHAL 1 Quote
james_oxley Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 My two favorite beaver type baits are the Reaction Innovations sweet beaver and the Strike King Rodent. The rodent is a lot softer and not as durable as the sweet beaver though. Quote
fowlskies Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I was surprised it took so long for the pit boss to be mentioned, very good action. I'll throw another one in the mix that is on par with the pit boss. The Havoc Devil Spear is a deadly bait and don't be afraid to split it's tail. Quote
